Cosmetics Museum: An Industry First
The desire to look more beautiful than one is and curiosity about appearance are as old as human history itself. The growing demand for cosmetic products to improve appearance drives the sector forward with each passing day. In this context, the 5th International Cosmetics Congress, which presents an industry first, will be held between 25-27 November by the Association of Cosmetics Manufacturers and Researchers. The congress, bringing together leading representatives of the sector, will feature nostalgic cosmetic products from ages as old as human history in the "Cosmetics Museum".
Alembic: The Oldest Known Distillation Machine
Although the concept of beauty has been perceived differently throughout every period of human history from past to present, cosmetics and cosmetic products hold an important place in daily life today as they did in history. Throughout the historical process, as the concept of beauty and cosmetic product manufacturing became widespread, machines that simplified product production emerged. Among the oldest cosmetic machines that emerged in this context is the alembic.
The machine used in liquid distillation is used not only in the cosmetics sector but also in the chemical industry and fuel research. The distillation alembic, still used in laboratories today, continues to be used in rose water, essence and dye production as the first and most well-known distillation application. Frequently used in cosmetics in the past, the alembic will take its place in the Cosmetics Museum with its deep-rooted history.
Century-Old Perfume Bottles To Be Displayed in This Museum for the First Time
Although the perception of beauty has gained different dimensions over the years, the passion for being clean, well-groomed and pleasant-smelling remains an area that has undergone no change. In this regard, many applications have been made in perfume production over the ages. Fragrant flowers, resins and magical scents obtained by burning herbs became cosmetic products frequently used by different civilizations. The pleasant-smelling perfumes obtained were initially preserved in clay and wooden bottles, but with the development of cosmetic products they evolved into elegant glass bottle designs.
In this context, elegant, nostalgic perfume bottles from antiquity displaying over 200 years of history alongside fragrant scents, as well as perfume bottles from the 1940s and 1950s will be displayed in the museum.
Soap, known and used as the most basic cleaning material, has its origins dating back to the third millennium BC. Besides being used as a personal and general cleaning agent, soap is also an important cosmetic product in that it provides pleasant fragrance and skincare. Seen as a miracle in history, soap has undergone changes over the years and has become the most frequently used cleaning product in many different forms today. Throughout the rooted history of soaps, which hold an important place in the cosmetics sector today, machines with interesting designs were actively used.
In this respect, the pantograph soap mold lettering machine from the 1980s and the gear-driven red soap grinding machine, with a quarter-century history dating back to the very beginning of soap's existence, will be featured in the museum.
