Treasury Announces Support for 139 Types of Medicinal, Aromatic and Ornamental Plants

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change is leasing Treasury real estate at one-thousandth of fair market value for cultivation of 139 varieties of medicinal and aromatic plants and ornamental plants, particularly lavender, rose, sage, thyme and nigella seed, which are heavily used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has called on producers to increase agricultural activities on Treasury real estate and support domestic production. In a statement addressing female entrepreneurs and young farmers aged 18-40, the Ministry said: "We continue to lease Treasury real estate at one-thousandth of fair market value for the cultivation of 139 varieties of medicinal and aromatic plants and ornamental plants, particularly lavender, rose, sage, thyme and nigella seed, which are heavily used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors."

Strong Demand for Lavender

To date, leasing transactions have been completed for Treasury real estate totaling 34.3 million square meters across 68 provinces for the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and ornamental plants. Balıkesir led with 5.6 million square meters, followed by Kütahya with 4.6 million square meters and Tokat with 2.6 million square meters. Lavender cultivation, which tops demand, accounted for approximately 20.2 million square meters of leased land. Land was leased at an average rate of TRY 20 per acre.

20 Million Square Meters in 2022

Within the scope of ongoing activities, 20 million square meters of Treasury land will be announced for lease in 2022 for the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and ornamental plants. In this context, female entrepreneurs and young farmers aged 18-40 will be given special incentives, while agricultural engineers, agricultural technicians, residents or registered occupants of the property location, medicinal and aromatic or ornamental plant cultivators registered in the Farmer Registry System, and producer organizations such as agricultural cooperatives will have priority rights in leasing.

Announcements Accessible via Website

Announced properties are posted at www.milliemlak.gov.tr for 30 days, with notifications also sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, relevant municipal offices, chambers of commerce and industry, and chambers of agriculture. Properties located within village and township boundaries are announced through appropriate channels within the relevant village and township for 30 days. Citizens wishing to benefit from these programs may apply to the National Property Department Directorates / Offices within the Provincial Directorates of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and to the National Property Offices in districts.
