Things to Know About Eye Makeup
Ophthalmologist Op. Dr. Ali Küçüködük stated that cosmetic products designed specifically for use around the eyes should be used, and emphasized that eye makeup should never be shared with others for the sake of eye health.
Özel Medicana Konya Hastanesi Ophthalmologist Op. Dr. Ali Küçüködük issued important warnings about eye makeup. Op. Dr. Ali Küçüködük noted that some cosmetic products pose a threat to eye health, listed the basic steps to follow to protect the eyes during makeup application, and explained as follows:
"Use cosmetic products designed specifically for use around the eyes. Avoid untested products or those containing harsh chemicals. Discard your eye makeup after 3 months and purchase new products. Bacteria that cause infections multiply easily in creamy or liquid eye makeup.
If you develop an eye infection while using makeup, discard all the eye makeup you were using and do not wear eye makeup until the infection clears. Never share your makeup with family members or close friends.
When sampling makeup at stores, use only new applicators and samples that have not been contaminated by multiple users."
Can cause irritation
Dr. Ali Küçüködük continued his remarks while cautioning those with sensitive eyes: "Especially if you tend to show allergic reactions easily, use only one new eye makeup or care product at a time. Do not add a new product until you know you have not reacted to the first one. Try to find out which substance you are allergic to through experimentation. This way you can watch out for them in other products. Inform your doctor; your doctor can provide information about products that may cause a reaction and gentler alternatives. Make sure your face and eyelids are very clean before applying makeup. To prevent the oil glands in the upper or lower eyelid from becoming blocked, always apply makeup outside the lash line, away from the eye. These glands secrete oils that protect the eye surface. Never apply makeup while moving. If your lashes are stuck together with mascara or another product, do not use anything sharp to separate them. Remove all eye makeup before bed at night, especially mascara which can stick to the lashes. If not properly cleaned, eye makeup can cause irritation. If you have had recent eye surgery, do not apply makeup around the eyes until your eye doctor says it is safe to do so. When you resume wearing makeup, use fresh, new makeup products to avoid infections."Advertisement
