Work Continues at Distillation Centre

The distillation centre, designed by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and set to become Turkey's largest medicinal and aromatic plant production and processing facility, is progressing rapidly. Intensive manufacturing work continues at the medicinal and aromatic plant production and processing facility, which will serve as a significant income source for Kocaeli farmers. Designed by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and under construction next to Kullar Produce and Fruit Market, the facility will serve Kocaeli farmers within a 42-hectare plot comprising 2,860 square metres of main facility enclosed area, over 1,000 square metres of pre-drying enclosed area, 777 square metres of administrative building area, 181 square metres of boiler room and 175 square metres of open pond system, totalling 4,000 square metres. The distillation facility, which will represent a significant income opportunity for Kocaeli, consists of 5 sections: main facility building, administrative building, pre-drying department building, boiler room building and open pond system. In this context, teams from the Building Inspection Department, having completed the rough construction of the administrative building, continue ceramic production, ceiling installation and plaster work inside the building. At the main facility building, reinforced concrete work has been completed. Steel structure fabrication, one of the roof cladding operations, is also underway. Teams have completed all work on the pre-drying department and finished rough construction of the boiler room. All fabrication of the open pond system under the project has been completed.

Contributing to Exports

Medicinal and aromatic plants produced in Kocaeli will contribute to Turkey's exports in this field as well as to the domestic market. At this facility established on 15 hectares of land in Kullar, demonstration plants will be cultivated, essential oils will be obtained through steam distillation, high-value agricultural products will be grown, with the goal of using these products in the pharmaceutical, dietary supplement and cosmetics sectors. The distillation facility, to be operated by SekaPark A.Ş., will conduct research and development and pilot production work for medicinal and aromatic plant varieties. The distillation facility will also function as a farmer training centre.
