Skin Mitochondrial Treatment Trojan Q10: A Game Changer in Skin Mitochondrial Treatment Mitochondria are intracellular organelles whose most important function is to produce approximately 90% of cellular energy. Mitochondria generate cellular energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through mitochondrial respiration. This process is also one of the primary sources of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Under normal conditions, these species are reduced to water by detoxifying enzymes. Unfortunately, due to aging, the balance between mROS and detoxifying enzymes is disrupted, leading to mROS accumulation. With DNA damage, mROS levels also increase progressively. When mitochondrial activity becomes depleted, this leads to the emergence of morphological changes and also a significant reduction in ATP levels. Coenzyme Q10 is a critical component of mitochondrial respiration, participates in ATP production, and neutralizes excess mROS. However, CoQ10 levels also decline with aging. Maintaining optimal CoQ10 levels clearly represents a winning strategy in combating skin aging. In fact, CoQ10 primarily helps maintain adequate cellular energy levels and secondly provides antioxidant protection against ROS. CoQ10 also increases extracellular matrix protein synthesis and fibroblast transformation. Optimal CoQ10 levels can easily be replenished with Q10 supplementation, but to fully benefit from Q10's potential, it must be ensured that it reaches the mitochondria. In fact, traditional Q10-based actives, neglecting Q10 activity at the mitochondrial level, primarily serve as antioxidants. This is because Q10 is mostly consumed by ROS outside and inside cells, so the amount of Q10 reaching the mitochondria is not significant. As Infinitec, we recently developed an innovative state-of-the-art technology called Trojan Technology. Trojan technology can surgically and effectively deliver Q10 to fibroblast mitochondria. Trojan Technology exhibits dual-mode, highly precise targeting capability: it first targets fibroblasts and then targets mitochondria after entering their cytosol. When Q10 is encapsulated within Trojan particles, its release occurs at the mitochondrial level. A schematic representation of Trojan Q10 is shown in Figure 1. Trojan Q10 combats the decline in cellular energy by restoring optimal mitochondrial activity, neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS), and increases collagen synthesis. The skin appears rejuvenated with increased elasticity and firmness. We have proven that Trojan Q10 can increase CoQ10 skin penetration (70% of the product localized at the dermis level within 2 hours). Furthermore, we demonstrated both fibroblast uptake and preferential localization of Trojan Q10 at the mitochondrial level (Figure 2). To demonstrate activity on aging fibroblasts, we determined how Trojan Q10 affects mitochondrial activity (measured by mitochondrial membrane potential) and how it controls mROS accumulation. All results are shown in Figures 3A-B. Trojan Q10 can increase mitochondrial activity (i.e., membrane potential) by 14% without causing mROS formation, while free Q10 shows no activity. This confirms the expected and superior re-energizing capacity of Trojan Q10 together with its antioxidant properties. Furthermore, Trojan Q10 can increase Collagen IV and VII synthesis by 40% against skin sagging that occurs with aging. Finally, the clinical efficacy of Trojan Q10 as an anti-aging agent was evaluated in terms of firmness and elasticity. 18 volunteers (aged 40-60) in the face area were subjected to 56 days of topical treatment with 1.5% Trojan Q10 and 1% Free Q10. Trojan Q10 shows significant anti-aging effects with 10% more skin firmness and 14% more elasticity compared to treatment with Free Q10. With Trojan Q10 application, we can observe a significant reduction in fine lines (25% reduction in line area and length, Figure 4). It should also be noted that Trojan Q10 contains only 0.02% Q10, so Trojan Q10 contains 3000 times less Q10 compared to Free Q10. We can conclude that Trojan Q10 has changed the game by delivering the active ingredient to mitochondria and providing Q10 supplementation. With Trojan Q10, we begin where others stop.
