An Innovative Healthcare Profession: Tele-Health Technician

İstanbul Atlas Üniversitesi Meslek Yüksekokulu Director Lecturer İlkay Altunsoy said the importance of the Tele-Health Technician programme has increased with the digitalisation of health services.

The Tele-Health Technician programme, which has grown increasingly important with the digitalisation of health services, is based on the use of information and communication technologies in healthcare. İstanbul Atlas Üniversitesi Meslek Yüksekokulu Director Lecturer İlkay Altunsoy said this innovative programme, which encompasses applications such as remote medical consultations, monitoring of chronic diseases and supervision of high-risk pregnancies, aims to train professionals who combine both technological and human skills. Altunsoy noted that programme graduates will play an important role in the digital transformation of the healthcare sector.

Remote health services are a developing field. Lecturer İlkay Altunsoy, noting that remote health services have become a developing field, particularly during the pandemic period, stated: "Tele-health, a system encompassing applications such as remote medical consultations, monitoring of chronic diseases and supervision of high-risk pregnancies, has become indispensable in the healthcare sector, particularly during the pandemic period. The need for specialists to manage the technical infrastructure, guide the process and ensure patient communication for this system to work efficiently is growing rapidly."

Comprehensive education aimed at
Lecturer İlkay Altunsoy, noting that the programme provides comprehensive education, said: "The Tele-Health Technician programme is not just technology education, but also comprehensive education encompassing the human aspect of healthcare services. Our graduates will have both the technical skills to manage the digital infrastructure and the human competence to conduct patient communication within an ethical framework."

Broad range of education provided
Lecturer İlkay Altunsoy, noting that students within the scope of the programme will receive education across a wide range of subjects from basic health sciences to health informatics, from electronic health record systems to artificial intelligence-supported applications, said: "Additionally, competence in fields required by the age, such as teleconsultation, mobile health technologies and crisis management, is targeted. Through applied courses and mandatory internships, students will strengthen their theoretical knowledge with practice."

Will play a role in healthcare sector digital transformation
Lecturer İlkay Altunsoy, highlighting the advantages the programme will provide to students, said: "Our graduates, who will play an important role in the digital transformation of the healthcare sector, will have a wide range of employment opportunities in hospitals, polyclinics, private clinics, IT departments and healthcare technology companies. Especially through tele-health applications, individuals living in rural or hard-to-reach areas will have easier access to healthcare services, thus ensuring equal opportunity in health." He emphasised that competencies such as empathetic communication, analytical thinking, developing solutions to technical problems and inclination towards information technology are important for candidates who wish to succeed in the programme.
