Can 'Ozone Therapy' Treat Alzheimer's?

Alzheimer disease, a type of dementia commonly seen with advancing age, is a progressive neurological disease that causes the destruction of brain cells. With this disease, where brain signal transmission becomes difficult, the degenerative process affecting thought, memory and behavioral functions is positively supported in a therapeutic direction through 'ozone therapy' applications by increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood. Yeni Yüzyıl Üniversitesi Gaziosmanpaşa Hastanesi Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr Saime Demirci from the GETAT Department shared the following on the subject: While explaining the significant support that ozone therapy brings to the treatment of Alzheimer patients, 'Since ozone treatment strengthens the immune system, it increases these patients' resistance to infections. Ozone therapy in Alzheimer patients responds very well both for treatment and preventive purposes.' Although Alzheimer disease may appear as an age-related and elderly disease, it is actually a type of disease that can occur in everyone, a brain disease that leads to the destruction of cognitive abilities. Alzheimer initially starts with forgetting small things, then progresses to not remembering larger matters. Everyone can forget some things from time to time, but this condition is temporary. In people with Alzheimer disease, however, this condition can be permanent. As the individual's disease progresses, they cannot continue their life independently but can continue with the help of another person. When circulation in brain cells is disrupted, sufficient oxygen stops reaching the brain cells. Brain cells, which are very sensitive to oxygen deprivation, enter a low metabolic mode in response to this chronic oxygen starvation and continue their lives this way. This oxygen deprivation is the first warning sign of symptoms such as decline in cognitive skills, deterioration of posture and motor functions (weakening of hand skills, shoulder drooping and weak gait). This condition is important enough to damage the person's quality of life. In these diseases, ozone therapy is performed by administering ozone through the blood route or rectally. With ozone therapy, an increase occurs in cerebral blood circulation and blood oxygen levels: This increase protects nerve cells from free radical damage, increases cell vitality, mitochondria, the energy centers of brain cells, begin to renew. At the same time, with its anti-inflammatory effects, it also shows anti-aging effects on the brain because ozone improves the circulation disorder known as cerebral arteriosclerosis, characterized by hardening of brain blood vessels. As a result, there is improvement in cerebral capillary circulation, increased cerebral blood flow and increased oxygen utilization by neurons. The oxidative substances that result trigger the immune system and cell repair and abundant oxygen reaches the tissues. In an external study, as a result of ozone therapy application in patients with neurodegenerative disease, 73-90 percent significant improvements were observed without side effects (Rodrigues and colleagues). Since ozone treatment strengthens the immune system, it also increases these patients' resistance to infections. Ozone therapy in Alzheimer patients responds very well both for therapeutic and preventive purposes.
