Eight Key Rules for Omicron
Eight Important Rules for Omicron
The Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19, which has deeply affected the entire world over the past two years, continues to pose a major threat due to its very rapid transmission risk.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tülin Sevim, Chest Diseases Specialist at Acibadem Taksim Hospital, states: "The Omicron variant was designated a 'Variant of Concern' by the World Health Organization on 26 November. The most significant characteristic of the Omicron variant is its extremely rapid transmission and spread. Case numbers are increasing rapidly in every country it enters. In recent weeks, the impact of the Omicron variant has caused patient numbers in our country to rise well above those seen in previous waves."
Emphasizing that while it may cause no complaints in vaccinated individuals, the variant can pose a vital threat to unvaccinated people, those with incomplete vaccinations, those with weakened immune systems, and those with chronic illnesses, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tülin Sevim states that there are very important rules to be observed within the home. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tülin Sevim, Chest Diseases Specialist, explained eight important rules to be followed to protect both one's own health and that of those around in Omicron cases, and provided important warnings and recommendations.
Eating Well and Getting Plenty of Sleep Are Essential!
Healthy nutrition and regular sleep are very important for our body's resistance to be strong. Eat healthily according to your age and weight and consume plenty of fluids. Vary your diet and include plenty of fruits and vegetables. Reduce salt and sugar, avoid excess fat, and drink plenty of water. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Sleep well and rest plenty.Wear a Mask at Home!
Try to avoid contact with other people in your home. Isolate your room, and if possible, separate bathroom and toilet facilities. Eat your meals in your room. When you must use common areas in your home; wear a medical mask covering your mouth, nose and chin, maintain at least 2 metres distance from other people, and use common areas for the shortest time possible. Ventilate your room frequently. Do not approach your pets.Do Not Waste Time in These Situations!
Monitor your temperature; if your fever does not go down, if you experience shortness of breath, breathing difficulties, if your fluid intake or nutrition is severely impaired, if you experience confusion, or if you feel unwell, contact your doctor or call 112 without delay.Salt Water Gargling Is Very Important
There is no definitive cure for Covid-19. Your doctor may recommend certain medications to reduce your symptoms; use these medications regularly. Additionally, herbal teas, throat lozenges, and salt water gargling can provide relief. Salt water gargling will help against bacteria in the throat.Exercise
Do not fall into despair about a positive result and spend the day lying in bed continuously. Perform exercises appropriate to your age within your home that will not overtire you, particularly breathing exercises; focus on enjoyable activities, stay in touch with others, and share how you are feeling.Do Not Hesitate to Ask for Support
If you live alone at home; stay in contact with your family, friends, and neighbours. Keep them informed about your health status. Since you will not be able to go outside, you can ask them for help with your needs.Never Neglect Hygiene Rules!
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or clean them with a hand disinfectant containing at least 60% alcohol. Do not shake hands with anyone. Do not share items such as plates, glasses, forks, spoons, and towels with other people in your home. After using these items, wash them thoroughly with soap and water or put them in the dishwasher. If another person will touch your belongings, they must wear gloves. Wash your clothes, towels, sheets and similar items at least 60 degrees.Clean All Surfaces Thoroughly
Frequently clean and disinfect surfaces that are regularly touched, such as countertops, tables, door handles, taps, remote controls and phone screens. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tülin Sevim, Chest Diseases Specialist, stated: "Even if you are experiencing Omicron with mild symptoms like a common cold and have no complaints at all, do not be misled by this. You must stay at home and do not go outside unless you need medical assistance. Do not forget that you can transmit the disease to others. If you have a chronic illness, contact your doctor. Contact people you had contact with within 48 hours before your symptoms started or your PCR test came back positive, and inform them of your illness. This way you will have ensured they also quarantine themselves and get tested."Advertisement
