Merck Maintains Strong Growth Target for Third Quarter of 2024

Merck accelerated organic sales 3.8% and EBITDA 16.9% in the third quarter of 2024, recording strong growth.

Merck, a leading science and technology company, accelerated its growth in the third quarter of 2024. The company achieved organic increases in sales and earnings across all three sectors of its operations. As a result, the company continues to make progress on its path to profitable growth in the 2024 financial year, as previously announced.

Thanks to positive business performance across all three business sectors, Merck increased net sales to EUR 5,266 million in the third quarter of 2024, achieving 3.8% organic growth. Taking into account negative currency effects of 2.0%, Group sales increased by a total of 1.8% compared to the previous quarter.

EBITDA increased organically by 16.9%. Contributing to this increase were sales growth, strict cost discipline and temporary reductions in research and development spending in the Healthcare sector. Including negative currency effects of 5.0%, earnings reached EUR 1,618 million with double-digit growth of 11.9%. The EBITDA margin rose to 30.7% from 27.9% in the previous quarter. Earnings per share were EUR 2.30.
