"Sustainability" Discussed in the Pharmaceutical Industry

The "Sustainability in the Pharmaceutical Industry Panel" organised in collaboration with Ankara University Faculty of Pharmacy brought together academics, healthcare professionals and students. The panel addressed women's health, health literacy, medicine access and sustainable health systems from a multidisciplinary perspective.

The event emphasised that sustainability is not only environmental but also a holistic approach encompassing social, academic and health systems.

ACADEMIA AND SECTOR MEET AT THE SAME TABLE
The panel, which opened with remarks by Ankara University Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Asuman Bozkır, featured academics, healthcare professionals and sector representatives discussing sustainable health systems.

The programme included Seda Demirkol Değirmenci, Director of Licensing, Market Access and Public Affairs at Bayer Turkey; Ecz. Beste Doğar, Women's Health Leader; Seda Babuşçu, Market Access Manager; and Muammer Kaya Yurteri, Senior Medical Liaison Representative, alongside faculty members and students from Ankara University Faculty of Pharmacy.

"SUSTAINABILITY IN HEALTHCARE REQUIRES A MULTIDIMENSIONAL APPROACH"
Seda Demirkol Değirmenci, Director of Licensing, Market Access and Public Affairs at Bayer Turkey, drew attention to the scope of healthcare sustainability and stated:

"Sustainability in healthcare encompasses a broad area from medicine access to environmental responsibility, from patient safety to public benefit. Academia, healthcare professionals and the private sector acting with shared intelligence is of critical importance in this transformation."

EMPHASIS ON WOMEN'S HEALTH AWARENESS
Within the panel, the session titled "Sustainable Approaches in Women's Health: Strategies for the Future" addressed women's health, health literacy and early awareness.

The session particularly emphasised that symptoms such as excessive bleeding and severe menstrual pain should not be normalised, while highlighting the importance of women's access to correct information and healthcare services.

"IT'S NOT NORMAL" CAMPAIGN RAISES AWARENESS

Ecz. Beste Doğar, Women's Health Leader at Bayer Turkey and moderator of the panel, drew attention to the importance of public awareness in women's health and stated:

"Many symptoms experienced by women are accepted as 'normal' in society, and this delays support-seeking processes. Yet these symptoms directly affect quality of life. With our #NotNormal campaign, we aim for women to access correct information and seek support when needed."

EARLY AWARENESS AND CORRECT REFERRAL ARE CRITICALLY IMPORTANT
Prof. Dr. Yusuf Üstün, Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, drew attention to the importance of early diagnosis and referral in women's health, stating that correct assessment at primary care level and a multidisciplinary approach directly affect quality of life.

PHARMACISTS ASSUME AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
Prof. Dr. Arzu Beşikçi, faculty member at Ankara University Faculty of Pharmacy, drew attention to pharmacists' expanding role in women's health and health literacy.

Ecz. Berke Mert Ertürk highlighted that pharmacists are among the first points of contact in women's health, emphasising the importance of correct information and counselling.

RELIABLE SOURCES EMPHASISED AGAINST DIGITAL INFORMATION POLLUTION
The event also addressed the importance of reliable health sources against digital information pollution, pharmacists' counselling role and the critical position of healthcare professionals in correct referral processes.

The panel was regarded as an important platform strengthening information exchange between academia and the sector.
