Prof. Dr. Tümay İpekçi from the Urology and Andrology Department at Memorial Şişli Hospital emphasized that male reproductive health is directly related to lifestyle, environmental factors and age, offering important assessments.

Sperm production goes through a complex process
Sperm production and maturation, which form the foundation of the male reproductive system, occur as a result of a highly sensitive and multi-stage physiological process. This process starts in the testes and is controlled by both local mechanisms and the neuroendocrine system that operates between the brain and testes.

Disruption of this delicate balance can lead to infertility. Factors such as smoking, excess weight, unhealthy diet, air pollution and exposure to harmful chemicals negatively affect sperm quality and increase infertility risk. In particular, sperm quality decline can be observed with advancing age, and the chance of fatherhood may decrease.

The genetic structure of sperm cells is being examined more closely
Infertility becomes a concern when couples wishing to have children fail to achieve pregnancy despite unprotected intercourse for an extended period. This condition can develop due to reasons related to both men and women.
