GSK Turkey and Abdi Ibrahim Launch Major Investment The Sterile Inhalation Facility, developed through the collaboration of GSK Turkey and Abdi Ibrahim with the support of the T.C. Presidential Investment Office, has begun operations. The facility, representing an investment of TRY 340 million and introducing Turkey to the most advanced 'nebuliser' technology used in treating respiratory diseases, has become the world's only manufacturing centre for GSK's entire nebuliser portfolio. The official opening of the Sterile Inhalation Facility, developed through the collaboration of GSK Turkey and Abdi Ibrahim with the support of the T.C. Presidential Investment Office, took place on 8 December Thursday at the Abdi Ibrahim Esenyurt Production Complex. Through this facility investment, which reflects the combined technology, expertise and experience of the two companies, Turkey aims to contribute to the localisation of pharmaceutical manufacturing in the country and to produce 600 million nebulisers worth a total of TRY 2 billion within five years. GSK's nebuliser technology, developed under GSK's leadership and used as a pharmaceutical treatment for respiratory diseases, will now be manufactured at the Sterile Inhalation Facility located within the Esenyurt Production Complex of Abdi Ibrahim, Turkey's pharmaceutical sector leader. This is intended to make significant contributions to public health and the country's economy. The facility, built with an investment of TRY 340 million and meeting international standards, represents GSK Turkey's largest investment over the last 10 years and holds the distinction of being the world's only manufacturing centre for GSK's entire nebuliser portfolio. Selim Giray, General Manager of GSK Turkey, stated: "Respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD rank among significant public health challenges worldwide and in our country. We know that approximately 8 million people in our country struggle with these diseases today. Leading a large team, we are proud to have transferred this advanced technology and knowledge from GSK's manufacturing facility in Australia to our country, bringing a facility meeting global standards to Turkey and contributing to the localisation of pharmaceutical manufacturing. I view the Sterile Inhalation Facility we opened today as the most important reflection of our strong partnership with Abdi Ibrahim, which has continued for over 30 years. I consider it a privilege to realise this major investment, which represents an important step in transitioning from pharmaceutical imports to local production, together with Abdi Ibrahim, whose strong infrastructure and unparalleled expertise make it a source of pride not only for our sector but for our entire country. I wish that our facility will benefit our country and contribute to the healing of millions of patients in our country."
A significant investment for the country's economy and pharmaceutical sector
Dr. Süha Taşpolatoğlu, General Manager of Abdi Ibrahim, stated that as Abdi Ibrahim, they operate with the awareness of serving not only today but the future, and with the vision of making investments that will also meet future treatment needs. Pointing to the facility's importance for both the sector and the country's economy, Dr. Taşpolatoğlu said: "We have maintained a valued business partnership with GSK for over 30 years. With this investment project, which was realised over approximately four years, we have crowned our business partnership. The facility is in the position of being the world's only manufacturing centre for GSK's entire nebuliser portfolio. Respiratory is a strategic area for Abdi Ibrahim, and we offer a broad product portfolio in this area to meet all needs. GSK's choice of Abdi Ibrahim for this investment in this field is a source of pride for us. We have confidence in our country, our sector, our people and our team. With our pioneering investments, we are contributing to our country's goal of becoming a major player in pharmaceuticals, and we will continue to do so. I would like to thank the Presidential Investment Office for the support they provided us, and our business partner GSK for valuable collaborations. May our Sterile Inhalation Facility bring good fortune to our sector and to Turkey." he said. A. Burak Dağlıoğlu, Head of the Presidential Investment Office, stated: "Under the leadership of our President, since 2003, many reforms have been implemented in various sectors for the development of our country, and particularly in life sciences, reforms have been realised that support R&D and innovation, encourage investments and increase exports. With a pharmaceutical market worth 7 billion dollars, Turkey ranks among the top 20 globally and stands as a centre attracting the interest of the global health ecosystem. As the Investment Office, while targeting qualified investments, we always support successful collaborations between Turkish and international companies that strengthen the sector. This facility, which will be extremely important for our domestic pharmaceutical supply in respiratory diseases and will be the world's only centre for manufacturing GSK's entire nebuliser portfolio, is a successful example supporting the country's characteristic, which we frequently emphasise, of being a centre in many areas such as manufacturing, R&D and logistics. We thank GSK and Abdi Ibrahim Pharmaceuticals for this TRY 340 million investment and wish that the investment will bring good fortune to our country." he said.
