Boehringer Ingelheim Türkiye Achieves 54.1% Growth Rate

Evren Özlü, General Manager of Boehringer Ingelheim Turkey, assessed the pharmaceutical sector's 2020 during the pandemic and shared forecasts for the end of 2021, stating: "In the second half of the year, we expect the pharmaceutical sector to regain its characteristic identity and return to its pre-pandemic trajectory. As a company, by analyzing these changes in a timely manner, we became one of Turkey's fastest-growing pharmaceutical companies in both human and animal health in 2020" he said. Evren Özlü, General Manager / Human Health Director of Boehringer Ingelheim Turkey & General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, noted that the course of the pandemic and the momentum in vaccination treatment would be the main determinant of healthcare sector growth rates for both Turkey and other countries, and that the positive effects of measures taken would begin to be seen as a result of solution-oriented approaches. Özlü stated: "We believe that the change that began in our sector in 2020 will continue, and permanent changes in practices will come to the fore even after the pandemic days are left behind. It would not be wrong to say that a new era in working principles was triggered by the pandemic. At the same time, it would be accurate to say that the pharmaceutical sector will regain its characteristic identity and return to its pre-pandemic trajectory. There will be an increasing momentum in new patients and diagnoses" he said.

Highlighting that Boehringer Ingelheim Turkey displayed successful growth despite pandemic conditions, Özlü spoke as follows: "In 2020, sector growth in human health was realized at 24.1 percent. Boehringer Ingelheim Turkey reached a growth rate of 54.1 percent. As a company, we demonstrated strong performance in human health and rose to 15th place. We are among Turkey's fastest-growing pharmaceutical companies in human health" he said.

Regarding animal health, Özlü stated that they closed 2020 successfully, "According to CEESA data, while Turkey's animal health sector grew by 23 percent in 2020, Boehringer Ingelheim Turkey grew by 51 percent in animal health, becoming one of the fastest-growing multinational animal health companies. With these achievements, Turkey contributed positively to the region as the fastest-growing country in animal health in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) region" he said. Noting that in 2021, in line with global strategy, priority would be given to Type 2 diabetes, oncology and IPF, Özlü stated that especially in Type 2 diabetes they are working to focus more on disease treatment and bring innovative medicines to patients. We aim to have a say with our critical products in the treatment of priority areas. In addition to our current products, we foresee a year in which preparations for launches are at the highest level in terms of both new indications and new molecules" he said.

Özlü emphasized that the company will continue to be one of the main players in the healthcare sector with innovative treatments and approaches in both human and animal health, stating: "We will continue to work with the mission of touching lives and providing hope in order to offer innovative treatments to more patients" he said.
