AstraZeneca Turkey Shares Sustainability Updates AstraZeneca Turkey, which continues its efforts with the global 'Zero Carbon Commitment' strategy to do better for society, the environment and business, shared sustainability updates across 16 priority focus areas positioned under 3 priorities—access to healthcare, environmental protection, ethics and transparency—in its 2020 Sustainability Report. Access to Healthcare Working towards a future where all people have access to sustainable healthcare services including life-changing treatment and interventions, AstraZeneca's access programmes reached more than 25 million people and patient support programmes reached more than 10 million people. Environmental Protection One of the organizations demonstrating global leadership in proactively managing environmental impact across all operations and products, AstraZeneca has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 60%, water use by 20% and waste volume by 2% since 2015. To contribute to the global 'Zero Carbon Commitment' strategy, protect nature and provide healthy living for future generations, AstraZeneca Turkey established a voluntary-basis 'Zero Carbon Working Group' in 2020, and through the group's work earned the Gold Award in the 'Communication and Public Relations Campaign of the Year – Internal Communications' category at the 2021 Stevie International Business Awards, recognized as one of the world's most prestigious award organizations. Ethics and Transparency AstraZeneca Turkey, which has made it its mission to create positive social impact in all countries where it operates and promote ethical behaviour, has 50% women on its board of directors and 69% women in its middle and senior management team. AstraZeneca Turkey is also included in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index for the third time, appearing as one of 380 companies measured across five criteria for the success of internal and external gender equality activities and policies. Positioning sustainability at the centre of company operations, AstraZeneca seeks to create environments that promote health and welfare to improve public health in all geographies it serves, make science open and accessible, reduce its reliance on natural resources and demonstrate ethical business practices with integrity. In this context, with the 'Zero Carbon Commitment' strategy it announced at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting held in Davos, Switzerland in 2020, AstraZeneca aims to accelerate its targets in combating climate change and sustainability by doubling renewable energy production. The organization will use renewable energy sources in both electricity and heat consumption to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025.
