ALSA Ventures Launches Vantage Biosciences
Vantage Biosciences, a new company established by ALSA Ventures and investing in therapeutics for previously untreated medical conditions, has announced the acquisition of VX-01, which aims to prevent diabetic eye disease and will enter Phase 2 clinical development in mid-2024.
The initial Phase 2 trial, which aims to begin enrolling participants by mid-2024, will focus on treating individuals in the early stages of diabetes.
Diabetic eye disease is the leading cause of vision loss in working-age people and affects 1 in 3 people with diabetes, corresponding to more than 382 million people worldwide. It typically develops 5-6 years after the onset of diabetes.
Alek Safarian, Managing Partner at ALSA Ventures, said: "We are excited to launch Vantage Biosciences and to bring VX-01 into Phase 2 trials with the promise of making significant progress in areas where previously no advances have been made in the treatment of diabetic eye disease."
