Alchemab Unveils ATLX-1088 Antibody

Alchemab Introduces ATLX-1088 Antibody Alchemab Therapeutics, a company studying antibodies naturally occurring in disease-resistant individuals, announced the release of data on newly discovered ATLX-1088, which could be used in Alzheimer's disease prevention. ATLX-1088 is an antibody with a special mechanism that targets CD33, a cell surface protein thought to play a significant role in Alzheimer's disease. Studies have shown that higher expression of CD33 is associated with more advanced cognitive decline and worsening disease status; because elevated CD33 levels impede the normal function of microglia, resident immune cells in the brain that protect neural networks and repair damage. After identifying common antibodies specific to individuals resistant to Alzheimer's disease, Alchemab identified CD33 as the target. Alchemab's platform reverses the traditional "target-focused" drug discovery process, starting from the body's response to disease rather than the target itself. The immune system is used as a search function to identify the most important disease-modifying targets. Another advantage of this approach is that the disease-modifying antibody is naturally optimized by the immune system in a way that can create beneficial properties from a therapeutic perspective.
