Eksun Gıda Group Chairman and CEO Hasan Abdullah Özkan, in an assessment made on the occasion of 20 March World Flour Day, drew attention to the fact that flour plays a strategic role not only in terms of nutrition but also in terms of food supply security, industrial production, export and sustainability. Özkan, emphasizing the importance of the 3 million tonnes export target set by Turkey's flour industry for 2026, stated that Eksun Gıda is making a strong contribution to this target.
Flour, a fundamental input for the economy and production
Speaking in the context of World Flour Day, celebrated this year under the theme "Flour is Life", Özkan drew attention to the historical and economic importance of flour, saying: "Flour is one of the founding elements of civilisation. Anatolia's deep-rooted relationship with wheat has become one of the most important factors shaping Turkey's production and export capacity today. Today, flour is not only a staple of tables but also one of the fundamental building blocks of industrial production, food supply security and foreign trade."

"Turkey is a strong player in global flour trade"
Referencing Turkey's leading position in world flour exports, Özkan noted that behind this success is a strong industrial infrastructure and supply capability. Özkan stated: "Today, Turkey's position in the global flour industry cannot be explained by export figures alone. This success is based on production strength that converts wheat into added value, a supply structure capable of competing on a global scale, and a sector's reflex to maintain sustainable production even during crisis periods. The 2.34 million tonnes of exports achieved in 2025 and the 3 million tonnes target set for 2026 are clear indicators of this strength."
Strong financial and operational performance from Eksun Gıda
Commenting on Eksun Gıda's recent performance, Özkan noted that the company continues its production and investment-focused growth. "Through investments we made in the licensed warehousing sector during 2025, we increased our storage capacity to 100,000 tonnes. We closed the year with TRY 474 million EBITDA growth. With our over 200 product varieties and export network reaching more than 20 countries, we are advancing our production strength with each passing day," he said.
Renewable energy investments gaining momentum
Drawing attention to projects being implemented with a focus on sustainability, Özkan stated that energy investments will make significant contributions to production processes. "We have started construction of two separate wind energy plant (WEP) projects with a total capacity of 18.9 MW. With the completion of these investments, we aim to increase renewable energy use in our production processes and reduce our environmental impact," he said.
Deep-rooted experience with the Sinangil brand
Stating that Eksun Gıda holds a strong position in the sector with its deep-rooted Sinangil brand, Özkan said: "We are carrying the over 60-year Sinangil experience into the future with an innovative structure suited to changing consumer needs."
Özkan also congratulated all citizens on the holiday, noting that World Flour Day this year coincides with Eid al-Fitr.
