OYAK Awaits Competition Authority Approval to Acquire Tamek Gıda

OYAK, which operates in numerous sectors including steel, chemicals, cement, energy, services and automotive, is bringing Turkey's leading food producer Tamek Gıda into its portfolio. Having acquired Sanset Gıda some time ago, OYAK has now moved to acquire Tamek, a juice, canned goods and tomato paste brand. The acquisition agreement for Tamek, one of Turkey's leading food companies with three factories in Balıkesir and Manisa, was completed in recent weeks. With Hektaş, OYAK holds a significant position in the agriculture and food sector, and has begun successive acquisitions to strengthen its presence in this sector. Through the Sagra and Tamek operations, it has extended its agriculture and food activities—which had only just begun in the field with Hektaş—to the end consumer. Tamek Gıda, controlled by the Sipahioğlu family, ranks among Turkey's leading producers. The company, which gained recognition through the slogan "Put Tamek in your basket," has been conducting production and sales activities since 1955. After establishing its first factory in Bursa Demirtaş, it began operations under the name Tamek, formed from the initials of the words Türk Alman Meyve Ekstreleri Kumpanyası (Turkish German Fruit Extracts Company). Founder Mehmet Sipahioğlu, through technological cooperation with German partners, moved into production at a modern factory in Bursa.
