Sodexo Calls for Sustainable Nutrition on World Food Day

On the occasion of World Food Day, celebrated this year by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the theme "Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future," Sodexo highlighted that access to healthy, safe and sustainable food is not merely an individual choice but a global responsibility.

On the occasion of World Food Day, which is being celebrated this year by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the theme "Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future," Sodexo has emphasized that access to healthy, safe and sustainable food is not merely an individual choice, but a global responsibility.

World Food Day is observed every 16 October to draw attention to food production, consumption and security; and is celebrated with the aim of combating hunger, promoting sustainable production and consumption, and reducing the effects of climate change.

Global Food Crisis: Abundance and Scarcity Side by Side
While the world population is expected to exceed 9 billion by 2050, approximately 673 million people today struggle with hunger. Meanwhile, more than 2.8 billion people are unable to eat healthily. Rising obesity rates and food waste demonstrate that abundance and deprivation exist side by side within the same system. This situation highlights the need to make food systems more resilient and to use resources efficiently.

"Access to Sustainable Food is a Global Necessity"
Sibel Mumcu, Health Manager and Dietitian at Sodexo Integrated Services Management, emphasized that the transition to sustainable food production is of critical importance from a public health perspective.

In her statement on the subject, Mumcu used the following expressions:
"Access to healthy, safe and sustainable food is not an individual choice, but a global necessity. For our food systems to become resilient against challenges such as climate change, population growth and economic crises, we all need to take small but effective steps. Preferring local and seasonal products, reducing food waste and adopting healthy eating habits are at the forefront of these steps."

Conscious Consumption, Healthy Future
Increasing dietary diversity, supporting sustainable agricultural practices and promoting conscious consumption habits are of great importance not only for individuals, but also for the future of the planet.

Mumcu also drew attention to the impact of individual awareness:
"Every decision from our shopping list to our table affects future food security. Fresh food purchased in season from local producers is one of the best choices for both the environment and our health. Additionally, preventing waste by carefully planning meals, storing food correctly and reading labels consciously also makes a difference."

"Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future"
On the occasion of World Food Day, Sodexo emphasizes that everyone, from individuals to institutions, from producers to decision-makers, must take on shared responsibility for "better food and a better future."
