Cargill and TİDER Launch Adıyaman Support Market
Cargill and Basic Needs Association (TİDER) launch Adıyaman Support Market to deliver food, personal care, cleaning and animal feed products free of charge to 1,500 families monthly.
Cargill mobilized to support disaster areas following the 6 February earthquakes that devastated Turkey. As the region enters its recovery phase, Cargill is taking another step to assist residents by establishing Adıyaman Support Market in partnership with TİDER as part of a longer-term collaboration. TİDER is a member of The Global Food Banking Network (GFN), the world's largest food banking network that ensures people living below the poverty line have access to basic necessities.
A food bank is a civil society organization that collects, sorts, stores and distributes donated food, clothing, cleaning and hygiene products to those in need. Companies and individuals deposit these products at the bank, and those in need withdraw from it.
Scheduled to begin operations in mid-September, Adıyaman Support Market will support 1,500 families each month. Beneficiaries identified by authorities will be able to purchase cleaning and personal care products within set shopping limits, while also meeting their food needs. The market will stock animal feed products and will have office and warehouse space as well as various transport vehicles for daily use under the food bank's management.
Volunteer projects to expand impact over time
Murat Tarakçıoğlu, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Food Solutions META, commented on the matter as follows: "With the market we will establish in Adıyaman, we aim to reach as many people as possible. We hope this impact will grow over time." TİDER Board Chairman Hande Tibuk stated: "We are grateful to Cargill for contributing to such a meaningful and large-scale project aimed at supporting earthquake survivors. We are pleased to have worked alongside Cargill for many years." If TİDER secures funding from other companies, it will distribute these funds across a total of 66 points in the food banking network, including the new market to be opened in Adıyaman. In this way, additional stakeholders can support the food banking system, a collaborative development model, rather than a one-time aid program. Furthermore, volunteer projects can be developed over two years to increase impact. Basic Needs Association (TİDER) The Basic Needs Association (TİDER) began operations in 2010 under the name Food Banking Association. In 2014, recognizing that the ability to work in jobs suited to people's competencies and skills is one of the most basic needs, it added employment and development projects to its work and took the name Basic Needs Association. The association, which aims to create a realistic and sustainable model in combating poverty, opened its first Support Market in 2015 in Istanbul Maltepe; the market was transferred to Maltepe District Governorate in 2017. Through the food banks in its network, TİDER ensures that people living below the poverty line have access to their basic needs, while providing training through Support HR, delivering vocational education and job placement. Additionally, it supports meeting the basic needs of those living in disaster areas during crisis periods, develops development projects that prioritize economic and social empowerment of women in rural areas, and produces local projects addressing child poverty.Advertisement
