PAGÇEV SUPPORTS ZERO WASTE PROJECT

Door-to-door awareness campaign on recycling
The Zero Waste Project, carried out under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization to leave a sustainable world to future generations, continues at full pace. PAGÇEV, which has taken on a school mission in recycling and environmental issues, stands out among the supporters of the Zero Waste Project. PAGÇEV recently conducted awareness activities in the Dodurga and Yaşamkent districts of Ankara in cooperation with Çankaya Municipality and Alkın Kağıtçılık as part of the Zero Waste Project. Within the scope of the event, a 25-member team went door-to-door to explain the Zero Waste Project and what needs to be done to recover packaging waste in all its details. Operating as Turkey's authorized body on packaging waste, PAGÇEV (PAGEV Recycling Facility) carries out work to reduce, reuse and recycle packaging waste within the framework of waste management. As a pioneer in recycling, PAGÇEV recently implemented a public awareness campaign in cooperation with Çankaya Municipality and Alkın Kâğıtçılık on recovering packaging waste.Within the project scope, a 25-member team toured the Dodurga and Yaşamkent districts of Ankara, explaining the Zero Waste Project under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the importance of waste management and recycling.
During the event, the doors of 12,130 residences, 834 workplaces and 4 schools in two districts with a total population of 26,890 were knocked on individually to explain the details of the Zero Waste Project.Çankaya Municipality, with a population of 913,715, collects 482,000 tons of waste annually consisting of packaging waste, waste vegetable oils and waste batteries.
The public awareness campaign on recovering packaging waste that began in two districts under Çankaya Municipality is expected to continue in other districts as well. Noting that they protect the environment and contribute to the country's economy by recycling many products from packaging to paper, glass and metal products, PAGÇEV General Director Yağmur Cengiz stated: "Human impact on environmental pollution is an undeniable fact. In solving the problem, it is essential to create the necessary public awareness about waste and recycling. The 'Zero Waste Project' carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization under the patronage of Emine Erdoğan is of great importance in this regard. We are proud to be among the supporters of the Zero Waste Project as PAGÇEV. To date, we have implemented many projects to reduce packaging waste rates, reuse waste and recycle. Most recently, we implemented a public awareness campaign on recovering packaging waste in cooperation with Çankaya Municipality and Alkın Kâğıtçılık. Within the scope of the project, our expert team of 25 knocked on the doors of homes, workplaces and schools in the Dodurga and Yaşamkent districts of Ankara individually and shared information about the Zero Waste Project and recycling. We believe that such activities should be carried out on a much broader scale and continuously."Saying that PAGÇEV supports all environment-focused activities, Yağmur Cengiz stated that their contributions to projects on raising recycling awareness and spreading source separation will continue to increase.

ABOUT PAGÇEV:

PAGÇEV (PAGEV Recycling Facility) began operations in 2014 after obtaining authorization from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization for all packaging types. PAGÇEV works in cooperation with companies operating in waste-producing sectors to assume the certification obligations of packaging waste they place on the market, and also carries out activities to collect these waste separately at the source together with local authorities. In line with the importance given to education in raising awareness, it conducts activities particularly in primary schools and also carries out education and awareness work for housewives. It works to spread awareness across the country through activities in various provinces of Turkey. Within the framework of waste management, reducing packaging waste rates, reuse of waste and providing sustainable solutions for recycling are among PAGÇEV's most important goals. PAGÇEV continues its work with an ascending trend every year. Completing the recycling chain of packaging waste consisting of plastic, paper, cardboard, wood, composite, glass and metals, PAGÇEV recovered 220,000 tons of packaging waste for recycling in 2017 with a 22 percent increase compared to the previous year. Its contribution to the economy was TRY 610 million. PAGÇEV's 2018 target is to collect 240,000 tons of waste.
