University of Birmingham and Innospec Partnership University of Birmingham and specialty chemicals company Innospec have established a strategic research partnership to accelerate research into specialty chemicals used in fuels, performance chemicals (personal care, household care, agricultural chemicals) and oilfield services. The collaboration between the two institutions focuses on the development of surfactant chemicals that can be used in agricultural chemicals, construction, fuels, household and personal care products, and aims to deliver safe, responsible, resource-conscious and environmentally friendly products. The partnership reflects the Research, Engagement and Impact and Sustainability principles defined in University of Birmingham's 2030 Strategic Framework. The partnership is led by researchers from the Centre for Formulation Engineering at the School of Chemical Engineering at University of Birmingham, who have significant expertise in colloids, surfaces and interfaces. The research team recently came together with a team from Innospec, formally launching the research collaboration that will span many years. Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences Professor Mark Sterling said: "Scientists at University of Birmingham are at the forefront of formulation engineering. Collaborations of this kind, which house academic expertise enabling the solution of industrial-scale problems, are generating entirely new technologies." Professor Zhenyu Jason Zhang, who focuses on how soft matter (surfactants, polymers and colloids) behaves at surfaces and interfaces, said: "We are greatly encouraged by Innospec's recognition of our research capabilities and scientific expertise. Working closely with our industrial partners to overcome major challenges such as sustainability has become a cornerstone of University of Birmingham's Formulation Engineering. We look forward to expanding and strengthening our portfolio through this collaboration." Source
