Türk Ytong reduces construction costs with its Ytong-Multipor Facade System, which provides thermal insulation without cladding in buildings, offering lasting solutions to energy bills.
Record electricity consumption
Extreme temperatures affecting Turkey have set records for electricity consumption in the country. Increased air conditioning use and agricultural irrigation led to consecutive peak values in electricity consumption in July. According to data from Turkey Electricity Transmission Corporation, a daily record of 1 million 77 thousand megawatt-hours was set for electricity consumption. This consumption was stated to equal an approximately TRY 2.8 billion bill.
Türk Ytong General Manager Tolga Öztoprak made the following comments on the matter;
"To reduce the energy bill our country pays, we must use energy efficiently and develop energy-saving opportunities. Of the USD 97 billion we pay to foreign countries, approximately USD 40 billion is spent solely on heating and cooling our homes. According to TURKSTAT data, approximately 29 million people experience heating problems in their residences due to inadequate insulation. Yet we have the means to heat our homes with near-zero energy."
Opportunity for thermal insulation in new residential buildings
Tolga Öztoprak, recalling that with the amendments to the Energy Performance Regulation in Buildings, as of 1 January 2023 all buildings larger than 5,000 square meters are required to be constructed with an energy performance rating of at least "B," stated that building materials that would enable less energy consumption for heating and cooling must be used in newly constructed residential buildings. For residential buildings under construction, Öztoprak recommends the Ytong – Multipor Facade System, noting that it is a solution that will satisfy both investors and building occupants, continuing as follows: "With the solution we call the Ytong-Multipor Facade System, buildings achieve high-performance thermal insulation without requiring cladding. In this application, walls are constructed with Ytong 0.08 Blocks, and reinforced concrete surfaces are insulated with Multipor Thermal Insulation Board. Our new wall material, Ytong 0.08, provides 40 percent more thermal insulation compared to standard autoclaved aerated concrete. Multipor, our thermal insulation product, is a non-combustible, breathable thermal insulation material. We produce Multipor entirely from natural and domestic raw materials. Due to its mineral base, it allows the buildings in which it is used to breathe, preventing moisture and mold formation on walls. With this system, we deliver non-combustible thermal insulation as an alternative to cladding, meeting all expectations regarding energy efficiency, fire safety, and regulatory compliance. The Ytong-Multipor Facade System returns to investors and building occupants as a smart investment offering economic benefits and high thermal insulation performance throughout the building's lifespan."
