Medcem Çimento to Generate Its Own Electricity
Medcem Çimento will produce 22% of the electricity it needs with a second waste heat recovery facility coming online in the near future.
Medcem Çimento, which generates 70 million kWh of electricity annually, will soon commission its second waste heat recovery facility. The company, which contributes to the country's economy and the environment by generating its own electricity, will be able to produce 22% of the electricity it requires with this new facility.
Medcem Çimento to Produce 22% of Its Required Electricity with New Facility
Medcem Çimento, a subsidiary of Eren Holding, produces green energy equivalent to the consumption of 25,000 residences without depleting any resources, having prevented 31 million kg of carbon dioxide emissions to the environment. The company meets its own electricity needs by recovering gases discharged to the environment at approximately 350oC and generating electricity from steam.
With facilities in Mersin, grinding mills in Cameroon and Tunisia, and terminals in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Medcem Çimento covered part of its electricity consumption with a waste heat recovery facility commissioned in 2018. With the company's second waste heat recovery facility currently under construction, it will be able to generate 55 kWh of electricity. Upon completion of this facility, the company will be able to produce green energy equivalent to the consumption of 50,000 residences without depleting any resources.
Prevention of 55 Million kg Carbon Dioxide Emissions
Medcem Çimento, which conducts R&D studies within the scope of sustainability management, plans to generate 125 million kWh of electricity from both lines combined. The company will thus meet 22% of its energy requirements through the electricity it produces. At the same time, it will make a significant contribution to the environment by preventing 55 million kg of carbon dioxide emissions.
