Cataphoresis Coating System
Cathodic electrocoating is an extremely economical and environmentally friendly painting method and one of the finest technologies for surface treatment of metal products.
It is used primarily for protection of steel, galvanized and aluminium components.
As a single-coat surface primer or as a topcoat. Cathodic electrocoating provides a significant increase in performance and durability for the product range.
Main application areas include: automotive industry (automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles); agricultural and construction machinery; household appliances (washing machines, refrigerators); radiators, air conditioning units, electrical equipment, metal furniture, building components, etc.
Principle
The object to be coated is connected as a cathode in a direct current field of the electrolyte (conductive paint solution) and attracts cations from the paint. Electrophoretic filter cells - EFC (flat, semicircular, tubular) are connected as anodes and are used to maintain an equilibrium concentration in the paint bath.
As the coating thickness increases, layer resistance also increases. This applies across the entire surface, for example at corner edges. Thickness generally ranges between 15 and 45 μm. The uncovered coating must be polymerized in a curing oven at temperatures between 160°C and 180°C.
Basic requirements for the product
• Must be conductive,
• Must be submersible,
• Must be temperature resistant to approximately 180°C.
Advantages
The main advantages are:
• Minimum environmental waste due to low solvent content (0.5-2%),
• Minimum paint loss due to closed-loop paint material (99.9% paint efficiency),
• Minimum emissions, minimum solid and waste water,
• High corrosion resistance of coating (approximately 25 μm / 1,000 hours in salt chamber),
• High adhesion and mechanical strength of coating,
• Uniform coating thickness across the entire surface, including hard-to-reach areas and corner edges,
• Automatic and objective thickness control, pH monitoring,
• Fast process (approximately 180s), simple repeatability,
• Easy automation and process control,
• Low labour intensity and low demands on service personnel, paint does not drip or run,
• Possibility of topcoating with different lacquers,
• Safety - no fire or explosion hazards or special precautions required.
