Carbon Frugality Awards to Be Presented at 4th Istanbul Carbon Summit

Fourth Istanbul Carbon Summit to Bring Stakeholders Together, Carbon Champions to be Awarded

At the Fourth Istanbul Carbon Summit, to be held on 26 April 2017 under the hosting of Istanbul Technical University (ITÜ) by the Association for Sustainable Production and Consumption (SÜT-D), with the support of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), government officials, local administrations, academia, business, civil society organizations and youth will gather to examine carbon management, carbon financing and all aspects of Turkey's path to combating climate change.

At the summit, following the United Nations Climate Change Convention Conference of the Parties in Paris (COP21) and Marrakech (COP22), the road leading to the Bonn Conference (COP23) to be held in November 2017 will be discussed, and the position of industry regarding "Turkey's Intended Nationally Determined Contribution for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction" will be examined.

During the "Carbon Management and Industry" session, chief executives of our leading companies from different sectors will present their sustainability management and low-carbon economy strategies. The "Low Carbon Champion Award," presented to individuals and organizations for successful carbon reduction projects and implementations, will be presented at the summit.

Prof. Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu, ITÜ Faculty Member and Chairman of SÜT-D, said: "With the SÜT-D Low Carbon Champion Award, we work towards raising awareness of carbon management under the broad heading of sustainability management and demonstrate the power of civil society. This year we will present our third awards.

Carbon management is important for our energy companies and energy-intensive firms, and for the chemical industry. Managing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon is the responsibility of every producer. The chemical industry makes a carbon footprint through its products and the impact it has on the products of the sectors to which it provides inputs. We are looking for carbon champions in the chemical industry.

The interest of our sector in the Istanbul Carbon Summit is high. Istanbul Chemical Manufacturers and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) and POLİSAN have been our companions since the first day of the summit.

Civil society organizations supporting us include, most notably, the Association of Turkish Chemical Manufacturers (TKSD), as well as PAGDER, PAGEV, TÇMB, İZODER and İMSAD. This year, Organic Chemistry CEO Stefano Kaslowski will share his company's carbon management with our delegates during the Carbon Management and Industry session." he said.
