Filli Boya Transforms Waste into Environmental Solutions
Turkey's leading paints manufacturer Filli Boya contributed to the recycling of 3,656 tonnes of waste—including packaging waste and recoverable hazardous waste—through its waste management, recovery and recycling practices in 2012.
Filli Boya, which operates Europe's largest production and technology hub and has made energy efficiency practices, sustainability activities and environmental responsibility a way of life, recovered 3,656 tonnes of waste generated within its facilities in 2012, returning it to the country's economy.
Used as Raw Material
Taking significant steps towards becoming a model facility through its environmentally conscious approach and investments in this direction, Filli Boya classifies waste into 3 main groups: "Packaging Waste" (paper, cardboard, nylon, metal, plastic, wood, etc.), "Recoverable Hazardous Waste" and "Non-recoverable Hazardous Waste". The company sorts these waste streams at the Waste Storage and Recycling Centre of its Gebze facility, which is built on 152,000 m² with approximately 90,000 m² of enclosed area and has an annual production capacity of 348,000 tonnes. This enables these waste materials to be reused as raw materials in industry.Most Environmentally Friendly Facility
In 2013, Filli Boya was recognized in the Environmentally Friendly Facilities category by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Healthy Cities Association and received an "Environmentally Friendly Facility" award from Gebze Municipality. In 2012, the company directly and indirectly contributed to the recycling of 3,656 tonnes of waste in total, of which 705 tonnes was hazardous waste. That same year, the company added to its existing certifications "TS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems", "TS ISO 10002 Customer Satisfaction Management System" and "TS EN ISO 50001 Energy Management System" certificates. Filli Boya was certified by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) in 2011 under "TS EN ISO 14001 Environmental Management System" and holds "TS ISO EN 9001 Quality Management System" certification. The company earned the right to obtain the "14001 Environmental Management System" certificate in 2010, thereby documenting its commitment to environmental responsibility.Recipient of Environmental Incentive Award
Filli Boya received the "Environmental Incentive Award" in the large enterprises category at the "Şehabettin Bilgisu Environmental Awards" event organized by the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry in 2006.
