DISPERBYK-2080 and DISPERBYK-2081 win "Ringier Technology Innovation Award"
A Ringier jury composed of experts from China's coatings industry has awarded BYK the "Ringier Technology Innovation Award" in the "Coatings Industry" category this year for the additives DISPERBYK-2080 and DISPERBYK-2081.
The award was presented to Yuchao Jiao, representing BYK in Shanghai. These two innovative new developments from BYK address two requirements that have been difficult to combine until now in water-based rust-preventive and furniture coating applications.
The first is that the new wetting and dispersing additives provide excellent stabilization of pigments and fillers. The second is that they have no adverse effect on the rust-preventive properties of water-based single-coat coatings and/or the lime resistance of water-based furniture coatings.
DISPERBYK-2080 and DISPERBYK-2081, due to their special chemical structure, cause significantly lower hydrophilicity in cured coating systems compared to what traditional wetting and dispersing additives produce.
This results in longer-lasting rust prevention, and substances such as coffee and tea no longer leave unwanted stains.
Several other properties also stand out to support these two new developments: comprehensive compatibility with water-based adhesive systems, good level of viscosity reduction and excellent color results, improved early water resistance and direct adhesion to metal.
When these properties are combined, both wetting and dispersing additives become ideal for use in single-coat coatings applied directly to wood or metal substrates.
