Clariant Enhances Sustainability and Performance in Paint Manufacturing
Clariant Boosts Sustainability and Performance of Turkish Paints and Coatings Manufacturing with Easily Dispersible Pigments
Clariant continues to create added value for paints and coatings manufacturers in Turkey through competitive and innovative solutions tailored to customer needs. Turkish paints and coatings manufacturers are seeking to improve the sustainability profile of their companies and products while maintaining the same performance level in their paints. Easily dispersible (ED) pigments, together with the consumer-oriented process chain, help enhance the sustainability profile of paints. With a total economic value of approximately USD 2.5 billion, the Turkish paints industry ranks among Europe's top 5 paints industries. The industry aims to enter the top 3 within the next 10 years and accordingly has focused on strengthening production and technology infrastructure and prioritizing research, development and innovation to sustain its success. In line with this strategy, Clariant has developed organic pigments known as Easily Dispersible (ED) Pigments. One of the most important steps in paint manufacturing is pigment dispersion. To achieve the "Easily Dispersible" properties of organic pigments, Clariant has developed an economical production process involving surface application of pigments containing highly effective and highly compatible dispersing additives. As the name suggests, Clariant's ED pigments can be easily incorporated into paint systems with a solvent and without an additional grinding step. This is an innovative approach in paint manufacturing and provides efficiency and savings in raw materials and energy. ED pigments are available and can be used in solvent-based industrial coating systems and water-based decorative paints. All of these pigments carry the Clariant EcoTain® Portfolio Value Program certification label. EcoTain certification is granted only to products that have been subjected to a systematic and comprehensive 36-criterion test demonstrating best-in-class performance and sustainability excellence across the social, environmental and economic dimensions of sustainability. During the certification process, products are evaluated through a four-stage life cycle ranging from sustainable design to eco-integration.Advertisement
