AkzoNobel Launches Next-Generation Fillers AkzoNobel has introduced next-generation fillers under its Sikkens and Lesonal vehicle repair paint brands, which will help automotive repair shops significantly increase efficiency while reducing energy costs. Developed to provide time and cost savings without compromising quality, the single-component fast-drying filler systems known as Sikkens Autosurfacer Optima and Lesonal 2K Ultimate Filler are available in selected markets across Europe. Patrick Bourguignon, Director of AkzoNobel's Automotive and Specialty Coatings business unit, stated: "In the current economic environment, one of the biggest challenges for repair shops is rising costs. The newly developed fillers were created to help our customers accelerate repair performance while tackling the significant difficulties they face." The new products, which cure quickly at ambient temperatures and under infrared and 60°C conditions, accelerate cycle times, which reduces energy costs by up to 85% by freeing up space in the spray booth. Combined with single-component application, infrared drying allows for processing times up to 80% shorter and enables service centers to fit more work into a standard working day. Rob Lagendijk, Director of Product Management for the Automotive and Specialty Coatings business unit: "In addition to time and energy savings, there is less waste generated because less paint is needed for each repair and less material requires sanding, which helps develop much more sustainable repair methods." Other advantages provided by the product include advanced corrosion protection that eliminates the need for time-consuming pre-treatment; this makes it possible for technicians to start work quickly and reduce overall repair costs.
