AkzoNobel Introduces Bisphenol-Free Coating

AkzoNobel Launches Bisphenol-Free Coating AkzoNobel has introduced Accelshield 700, a new BPA-NI (Bisphenol A non-intentionally added)* internal coating for beverage can ends. The product will help can manufacturers and coil coaters accelerate their transition to bisphenol-free products. Accelshield 700, a BPA-NI coating, does not use BPA or bisphenol-based epoxies in its manufacturing process. The product complies with both US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and EU regulations. Accelshield 700 will help meet growing demand for alternative coatings following the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA) recent opinion on BPA restrictions in metal packaging for food and beverage products. Bisphenols continue to be widely used in the manufacturing sector. The new coating is designed for non-alcoholic beverages and beer, as well as highly acidic foods and liquids such as milk and coffee that require sterilization at high temperatures.
