In our interview with Esin Gökmen, Densurf Business Unit Manager at Denge Kimya, we discussed sustainable solutions, innovation processes and strategic objectives in the sector. According to Gökmen, Denge Kimya's strong stance on domestic production and environmentally friendly chemicals is highly valuable.
Denge Kimya draws attention with its deep-rooted history in the sector and innovative approaches, while also differentiating itself through sustainability and environmentally friendly production strategies. In our interview with Esin Gökmen, Densurf Business Unit Manager at Denge Kimya, we obtained detailed information on many important topics ranging from the company's innovation processes to R&D activities. Gökmen noted that, in line with Denge Kimya's 2050 targets, they plan to reduce their carbon footprint to zero, and that they are developing important projects toward this goal. He also highlighted the company's focus on moving to a stronger position in the global market by describing the Densurf brand's innovative solutions in the paints and coatings sector and its environmentally friendly products.
Denge Kimya is known as an important player in Turkey's chemical sector. What can you say about your company's development in the sector and its current position? What are the most important factors that differentiate Denge Kimya in the sectors where it operates?
As the Denge Kimya team, we have been moving forward since 1993 with the motto "chemistry for a better future". From day one, we have worked together with our stakeholders in the textile sector to produce environmentally conscious and innovative solutions. Then in 2017, we underwent a complete restructuring and decided not to limit ourselves to textiles alone, but to become a business partner that produces solutions in every sector that chemistry touches. Now we see ourselves as a team that creates value with everyone we work with in the chemistry field and offers solutions to a broad sectoral range. We believe that the factors that differentiate us are our strong R&D, our sustainability-focused approaches, our flexibility and our customer orientation.
What are Denge Kimya's long-term objectives and growth strategies in the sector? What kind of roadmap do you plan to follow within the framework of sector dynamics?
As Denge Kimya, we have built our future-oriented objectives on sustainability, innovation and globalization. We closely monitor developments in the sector in order to establish a solid position both in Turkey and globally. With our nature-friendly solutions, we aim to strengthen ourselves further in the global arena by increasing our cooperation with our international business partners on our journey to becoming a global brand. Innovation lies at the foundation of everything for us. By developing new technologies in our R&D center, we provide innovative solutions to the sector, and by continuously increasing our R&D investments, we aim to be ahead in global competition.
Considering your commitment to providing environmentally conscious solutions, what are your sustainability policies and how do you protect the environment in your production processes? How does Denge Kimya approach and fulfill its environmental responsibilities?
As Denge, we do not view sustainability merely as an area that needs to be developed; we shape our entire organization toward this goal. We aim to reduce our carbon footprint to zero in Scope 1 and 2 by 2050. We know that setting challenging targets to achieve real transformation, monitoring these targets with data, and transparently sharing the results obtained are inevitable.
As a company progressing with the mission of being a learning and teaching organization, we needed a consultant to better manage our "sustainability" process, and for this reason we received consulting from Brika Sustainability. We have set the targets that need to be achieved by 2050 and published them on our website.
As part of the company's "physical" transformation, in 2021 we covered our facility roof with solar panels. With the system becoming operational, we now meet an annual average of 70% of our electricity needs from solar panels. This rate reached 100% in August of this year.
What are the roles and areas of expertise of your brands DNG, Densurf, Denadyes and Vynax within the company? Can you explain the distinguishing aspects of these brands?
Our brands DNG, Densurf, Denadyes and Vynax within Denge Kimya each provide effective solutions to sector challenges in their own fields, while prioritizing sustainability by focusing on environmental consciousness and domestic production.
Our brands differentiate themselves in the sector through innovative approaches and customer-focused solutions.
DNG is our brand that develops environmentally friendly solutions in the field of textile auxiliary chemicals. Denadyes serves with a wide range of products in the field of textile dyes. Vynax provides innovative solutions to many different sectors with water-based polyurethane dispersions. Densurf is our brand that produces innovative solutions in the paints and coatings sector.
With your Densurf brand, you offer innovative products to the paints and coatings sector. What are the greatest needs in this sector and how does Densurf respond to these needs?
Sustainability, performance improvement, reducing external dependence and efficiency are among the most fundamental needs in the paints and coatings sector. Our goal is to develop high-performance products that meet these critical requirements. In 2017, we started silicone resin production for the first time in Turkey. We continue to expand our paints and coatings additives portfolio and provide innovative solutions to the sector. With the Densurf brand, we have set many precedents and have broken down prejudices in this field, which has long been dominated by foreign sources. In this journey, we draw our energy from the entrepreneurial spirit that we have carried from day one.
What advantages do the silicone resins and other specialty products you have developed under the Densurf brand provide? In which specific applications do these products stand out in the sector and what needs do they address?
In our silicone resin portfolio, we have a unique product that we have developed by leveraging the synergy between boron and silicon, which gives coatings both high-temperature resistance and fire resistance. With products such as dispersion agents, foam suppressants and surface modifiers, we offer a wide range of solutions to the paints and coatings sector.

As Denge Kimya, we have successfully adapted our expertise in silicone chemistry to different sectors. We are currently rapidly continuing our work to develop hyperbranched polymers, polyurethane-based rheology agents, polymeric foam suppressants and surface modifiers.

What are the new trends and developments in the chemical sector that you closely follow globally? How does Denge Kimya keep up with these trends?
The trends we closely follow in the chemical sector are headed by sustainability, digital transformation, environmentally friendly materials and circular economy. Sustainability is no longer just a trend in the chemical sector, it has become a necessity. Environmentally friendly, biodegradable materials with low carbon footprint are in demand all over the world. With our Vynax brand, we closely follow this trend by offering innovative solutions in the field of water-based polyurethane dispersions. With our second European Union project SOLSTICE, we aim to bring an innovative breath to circular economy in the textile sector. With SOLSTICE, we aim to develop synergistic strategies and best practices and tools to implement the 5R approach from the purchasing phase of both industrial and daily textile products to the end of their service life. As Denge Kimya, we are working to introduce to a new industry the elastane that is recovered from textiles and is a polyurethane through our Vynax brand. Digital transformation is being felt in every area of the chemical sector, from production processes to customer relations.
