Interview with Captain Koray Karagöz, General Manager of Marine Line Türkiye

We conducted an interview with Koray Karagöz, General Manager of Marine Line Türkiye. Karagöz explained how the Chemline product group provides protection against chemicals and other corrosive factors, and provided information on its areas of application.

What are the areas of application for the Chemline product group, particularly in the construction sector, and could you provide examples?

Chemline coatings are successfully used in numerous facilities operating in industrial sectors such as road transport tanker companies and manufacturers, thermal power plants, petrochemical facilities, storage tanks, paper mills, and oil refineries. With our product group, we provide service against all types of chemical corrosion. In the industrial market, we have successfully completed 225 projects since 2011. To give an example, road tanker companies specifically prefer our coatings for transporting certain chemicals such as acids, caustics, and hypochlorite—substances that cannot be transported even in stainless steel tanks. Similarly, storage tank companies dealing with chemical storage, particularly in the storage of aggressive chemicals or chemicals where product purity is critical such as MEG, can manufacture tanks from carbon steel instead of the very costly stainless steel tank, and apply our coating inside. In this way, they can achieve the same or even better performance. Similarly, in thermal power plants, our coatings are preferred in stacks, absorbers, in areas we call FGD and GGH, demineralized water tanks, seawater circuits, neutralization pit channels and pools. Beyond this, we are particularly preferred in oil refineries because we have international FDA certification for food-grade applications. Beyond all of this, in virtually any area you can think of for protection against chemical corrosion, our coating can be used on carbon steel, stainless steel, and concrete surfaces. We have successfully implemented our coating on large concrete surfaces in companies such as Modern Karton, Petkim, Mefa Endüstri, Gubretas, and Çalık Enerji.

Industrial structures and production facility floors and surfaces are particularly exposed to different corrosive and abrasive effects depending on the nature of the production. How does the Chemline product group provide protection against these effects?

Chemline coating provides excellent corrosion protection against aggressive chemicals particularly on concrete surfaces. Because its molecular cross-links are 28,784 times greater than all other coatings, it does not absorb any aggressive chemicals and prevents corrosion through this property. Additionally, because its surface roughness is far lower than all other coatings, it prevents chemicals from adhering to the surface. Since we also carry out the application ourselves, we can provide a 100% guarantee for 5 years depending on the chemical involved. If desired, our coating can also be used mixed with reinforced fiberglass, which is resistant to chemicals, and in this way we can provide both chemical and mechanical resistance.

Corrosion and rust are always emerging as important problems. Can the Chemline product group address these issues?

Yes, it can. As I mentioned, because Chemline coating has much greater molecular cross-links, it is impermeable, does not absorb chemicals, and acts as a shield or barrier between the metal and the chemical. All other coatings, on the other hand, absorb chemicals to varying degrees due to their molecular structure and fewer cross-links. Additionally, because Chemline coating has a smooth surface, it prevents chemicals from adhering to the surface. Instead of much more costly stainless steel materials, you can use carbon steel and apply Chemline coating on top, significantly reducing your investment costs.

Hygiene is particularly important in health, pharmaceutical, and food production. What kind of solutions does the Chemline product group offer for these sectors?

We possess the international FDA certification required for use in these markets. Additionally, our coating is preferred in terms of protecting product purity. For this reason, our coating is widely preferred in companies producing cleaning products such as Diversey, Unilever, Hayat Kimya, Reckitt Benckiser, and P&G. Additionally, our coating is frequently used in oil producer companies such as May Grup, Kırlangıç Gıda, Aves, Gitas, and Ayhan Sezer.
