Minimalist Prestige!

Interior design trends for 2017 actually began signaling their arrival well in advance. The biggest movement of this year is green and the modular systems that accompany it, bohemian-styled designs alongside materials that complement modern decoration. As all of this year's trends and designs seem to echo the past, they remind us of one thing: "Capture the moment, emphasize technology but do not abandon simplicity." Pastel tones, greenery, wood and cork textures impose naturalness and elements from nature into spaces, while brass, copper and gold used in designs blend contemporary trends with this same feeling.

Trust in Green

In 2017, dark blue and military green are losing their dominance. In design, shades of green stand out, particularly emerald, dark green and lime green. Regarding why greenery has become prominent in interior design this year, the Pantone Color Institute explains: "Because we live in a stressed and tense world." As green, one of nature's primary colors, symbolizes peace, trust and comfort on a psychological level, spaces with younger design influences remind us again of what is innovative, vibrant and natural. You are accustomed to seeing green, which triggers productivity, in the logos of healthcare facilities, foundations and companies that wish to emphasize trust. However, in 2017, green is making itself visible in every space and area. With growing belief in ecological awareness, the reflection of this understanding in modern architecture is also increasing. We see green in combinations that play a major role in wallpapers, flooring and accessories—in short, in decoration. Colors that support green are pastel tones and grey. In 2017, what better way to carry cork panel texture, wicker, rope and capitonné and other natural and retro-emphasizing materials and textures than through greenery?

Tropical Splendor

The influence of greenery on tropical nuances is captured similarly in decoration through simplicity and tranquility; a kind of search for escape. Unlike previous years, tropical effect has a large share in 2017, encompassing more lavish elements, bright tones, animal motifs, leaf forms and living plants as seen in decoration. We will continue to see all details related to tropical regions and tropicality in designs. Pillows decorated with exotic fruits, carpets and curtains, tableware designs featuring animal figures and green and vibrant plants accompanying minimalist decoration, like nanotechnology textile products, paints and flooring represent the sought-after inspiration. A decoration where living plants similarly come to the forefront is inevitable. Wood Warmth This year in interior design, designs continue to favor what is natural and simple. As mentioned, tropical nuances and the power of green naturally highlight wood, which is good, warm and natural. Wood combines with unpolished furniture, ropes and the influence of country style. A style that functionalizes wood is dominant. With the warmer and more intimate feeling it brings to interiors, wood—whether traditional or contemporary—adapts to all designs, is a living and naturally harmonious material, which is why its popularity is increasing. The log-like tables you encounter in many restaurants and cafes are now appearing in home decoration as well. Wood essentially serves as a technology counterbalance. While softening and making decoration intimate, it provides a prestigious appearance without compromising simplicity. Nature's bohemian reflection through wood will continue to appear in more areas in 2017. And by combining the advantages of wood being a warm and living material with modern lines in designs, we can turn this into our advantage. Modular system; a situation born from creativity and necessity. This system, which takes up less space and makes interiors more functional and organized, adds lightness and comfort to spaces through metal-framed wooden shelves, coat racks and seating groups that can be adapted to the space.

Bohemian

Wood details combined with a bohemian air emit more vibrant oscillations while also revealing dynamism. We see the influences of the 1960s-70s in kitchen items, soft transitional sophisticated elements that elevate a classic appearance and pair beautifully with lime green. It is possible to define this retro perception as the reinterpretation of old designs through modern technology. Sculptural-form chairs, accessories with fantastic appearances and retro colors or lighting designs inspired by those years... A lime green base, accessory or armchair will almost create a design perception as if drawn with a red pencil. Vintage, just like the reason behind green's rise, has proven today that nostalgia for the past is becoming popular. In interior design, gold metals, crystal and glass styles, nano fabrics and, though appearing very contrasting, geometric elements used side by side brighten this bohemian essence. The new balance emerging in 2017 opens a door with an airy appearance, simplicity, material selection and contemporary designs that is also prestigious and flowing. Türkan Pınar Interior Designer
