Domestic investors' assets reach TRY 3.7 trillion

According to the June 2024 "Financial Market Summary Data" disclosed by the Capital Markets Association of Turkey (TSPB), domestic investors' equity holdings grew by 42.3% in the first half of this year to TRY 3.699 trillion, while foreign investors' equity holdings increased by 46% to TRY 2.274 trillion.

The Capital Markets Association of Turkey (TSPB) released the June 2024 "Financial Market Summary Data." According to the "Financial Market Summary Data" compiled by TSPB from sources including the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) and the Central Registry Agency (CRA), equity holdings of domestic residents (domestic investors), which stood at TRY 2.6 trillion at the end of 2023, grew by 42.3% in the first half of this year to reach TRY 3.699 trillion as of June 2024.

The year-on-year increase in domestic investors' equity holdings reached 91.1%. TSPB data showed that the returns provided by equities delivered returns above inflation to domestic investors both on an annual basis and in the first half of this year. As of the end of June 2024, of the TRY 3.699 trillion in equity holdings of domestic investors, TRY 1.762 trillion belongs to institutional investors and legal entities, and TRY 1.937 trillion belongs to individual investors. Domestic Investors' Private Sector Eurobond Assets Grew 38% Over Six Months

  According to data released by TSPB, domestic investors' financial assets, which totaled TRY 22.608 trillion at the end of 2023, grew by 15.4% over six months to reach TRY 26.009 trillion as of the end of June this year.

Domestic investors' financial assets increased by 45.2% over the year spanning June 2023 to June 2024. According to TSPB's "Financial Market Summary" data, in the first half of this year, the highest growth in domestic investors' financial assets occurred in private eurobond assets after equities. In the first half of this year, domestic investors' private eurobond assets grew by 38.3% to TRY 604.5 billion, while public eurobond assets increased by 11.9% to TRY 1.645 trillion.

Domestic investors' TL deposits increased by 54% on a year-on-year basis and by 15% over the past six months to reach TRY 9.772 trillion at the end of June 2024. Domestic investors' foreign currency deposits increased by 23.2% on a year-on-year basis and by 3.4% in the first half of this year to reach TRY 5.356 trillion at the end of June. TSPB data showed that increases in domestic investors' assets other than equity and private eurobond holdings remained below inflation.

Foreign Investors' Equity Holdings Grew 46% Over Six Months

According to the June 2024 "Financial Market Summary Data" released by TSPB, financial assets of foreign residents (foreign investors), which totaled TRY 2.574 trillion at the end of 2023, increased by 44.9% in the first half of this year to reach TRY 3.73 trillion as of the end of June. Foreign investors' financial assets increased by 135.2% over the year spanning June 2023 to June 2024.

TSPB data showed that in the first half of this year, growth in all of foreign investors' assets except foreign currency deposit accounts exceeded inflation. Foreign investors' TL deposit assets increased by 44.9% over six months to reach TRY 419 billion, while foreign currency deposit account assets increased by 3.8% over the same period to reach TRY 649 billion. TSPB data revealed that the momentum in foreign investors' equity holdings, which had been declining in recent years, has continued to accelerate in the first half of this year, supported by the monetary policies implemented by the government following elections held last year.

According to TSPB Summary Data, foreign investors' equity holdings, which totaled TRY 1.557 trillion at the end of 2023, increased by 46% over six months to reach TRY 2.274 trillion as of the end of June this year. The year-on-year increase in foreign investors' equity holdings reached 190.2%. Foreign investors' government domestic debt securities, which amounted to TRY 77.5 billion at the end of last year, increased by 344.8% over six months to approximately TRY 345 billion as of the end of June 2024, while private sector debt instrument holdings increased by 688% over the same period, a record rise, to reach TRY 13.3 billion.

22 Companies Completed IPOs in the First Half of 2024

Meanwhile, the "Overview of Turkey's Capital Market" July 2024 Report published by TSPB revealed that companies' interest in IPOs continues to grow. According to data compiled by TSPB from Borsa Istanbul, 52 companies completed IPOs in 2021, 40 in 2022, and 54 in 2023. According to the data, 22 companies completed IPOs in the first six months of this year.

These 22 companies raised a total of TRY 46.6 billion from capital markets through IPOs. TSPB data showed that over the 3.5-year period from 2021 through the end of June this year, 168 companies raised a total of TRY 166.8 billion from capital markets through IPOs.
