Wind and Solar Power Investments in Türkiye Continue at Full Speed

According to the latest data released by Turkey's Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAŞ), as of the end of March, wind energy accounted for 10.4% of electricity generation, while solar energy reached a 7.3% share.

The share of renewable energy sources in total installed capacity continued to increase in line with projections, while the upward trend in wind and solar energy persisted. Arkın Akbay, CEO of Eksim Enerji, commenting on the issue, stated: "As of March 2025, Turkey's installed capacity reached 117,885 MW, with wind energy plants accounting for 11.2% of this figure and solar energy plants for 17.8%. With increased electricity generation from renewable energy sources, we are witnessing the clean energy transition and a reduction in dependence on imported energy sources. As storage power plants come online, the need for imported fossil fuels will decrease at an even faster pace."

Turkey's energy sector is moving forward with confident steps on the path to sustainable growth and green transformation. The rising share of renewable energy sources in the March data released by TEİAŞ also attracted attention. In this context, wind energy reached a 10.4% share in electricity generation, while solar energy attained a 7.3% share.

Arkın Akbay, CEO of Eksim Enerji, commenting on the matter, stated: "The increase in the share of renewable energy in total electricity generation reduces our energy dependence on imports while providing first-rate support to social and environmental sustainability. As of the end of March, Turkey's installed capacity reached 117,885 MW, with wind energy plants holding an 11.2% share and solar energy plants a 17.8% share of this figure, demonstrating that we are making rapid progress in improving our average energy costs. From this perspective, wind and solar plants emerge as the most important actors in reducing our current account deficit based on energy sources."

Clean energy is also essential for healthy food!
Emphasizing the need to carefully preserve resources to reverse the negative effects of climate change, Akbay stated: "To increase accessibility to healthy food through productive agriculture and ultimately increase the welfare of our country, we are benefiting from solar and wind energy in the most suitable regions. As Eksim Enerji, with our investments across every region of Turkey, we are contributing with our efficient production resources to Turkey's 2035 renewable energy and 2053 net-zero emission targets, and we stand against consumption beyond our needs by saying 'Enough.'"

Number of solar plants exceeds 30,000
Recording that the number of solar energy plants nationwide has reached 32,307, Arkın Akbay stated: "Our country is located in one of the regions with high solar energy potential, and this opportunity is being utilized most efficiently. As Eksim Enerji, we recently obtained generation permission for 45 MW in the first phase of our Şanlıurfa-Viranşehir solar plant project. When our project is completed in June, it will reach a capacity of 191.4 MW and supply clean energy to 135,000 households."

"We are moving toward reaching installed capacity exceeding 2,200 MW"
Saying "By 2029, we are moving forward with confident steps toward reaching installed capacity exceeding 2,200 MW by putting our domestic and international projects into operation," Akbay emphasized that storage technologies will also play an effective role during this process. Akbay stated: "We will utilize storage technologies to balance the intermittent generation of renewable energy and increase supply security. In this way, we aim to store clean energy for long periods and deliver it to consumers continuously and reliably when demanded, while supporting improvements in the energy quality of our transmission and distribution networks. To increase our country's domestic production, we prioritize domestically manufactured equipment in our procurement and support the development of technology in Turkey."

Number of wind energy plants rises to 376
Recording that thanks to the Renewable Energy Resources Support Mechanism (YEKDEM), Turkey has become one of Europe's fastest-growing wind energy markets, Arkın Akbay stated that Eksim Enerji continues its investments in this field without slowing down. Akbay stated: "The number of wind energy plants in Turkey has risen to 376, and with our plants located across every region of the country, we are an important supporter of this growing structure.

With our recently commissioned Sakarya-Geyve wind plant project, we are making an EUR 80 million investment and increasing our facility capacity to 150 MW. In this way, we will meet the electricity needs of approximately 125,000 households with clean energy. We are close to completing the installation of our 14 turbines that have increased capacity in Geyve. At our Silivri plant we have 8 units, at our Karaman plant 10 units, at our Yozgat plant 8 units, and our teams are working with full force to ensure that a total of 176 MW of installed capacity contributes to our country's energy in 2025," he said.

Continuing his announcements regarding new investments, Akbay stated: "We have reached an agreement for the procurement of 8 N163/6.X wind turbines with a total capacity of 56 MW. With this investment covering 2025 and 2026, we will strengthen our plants at Silivri, Susurluk, Bergama Ovacık, Seferihisar, Hasanbeyli and Tokat Killik wind plants located in the Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea regions."

Arkın Akbay stated: "We are fellow citizens of every location where our facilities are situated. Noting that all projects conducted in investment areas are implemented under the supervision of independent organizations and in accordance with public opinion and the approvals of relevant central and local institutions, Akbay stated that with this approach, they have achieved strong cooperation with local communities and environmentally conscious growth.
