Çimsa has marked the 50th year of its production journey that began in 1975 at the Mersin Plant and today stands among globally significant companies in building materials and cement. Umut Zenar, Head of Strategic Investments and Operations at Sabancı Holding and Chairman of Çimsa's Board of Directors, stated that they have always positioned Turkey as their primary growth and production base, emphasizing that Çimsa exports to nearly 80 countries worldwide through its cement sector facilities.
Çimsa, which has drawn global attention through its growth and transformation strategy implemented in recent years, continues to pursue investments in Turkey with determination. Pointing to the company's established production tradition, Umut Zenar recalled that Çimsa was founded in 1972 and commenced its first production at the Mersin Plant in 1975, offering the following assessment:
"When Sabancı is mentioned in Turkey, one of the most fundamental elements that comes to mind is strong production capability and industrial culture. Çimsa is one of the strongest representatives of this vision in its own sector."
"We Are the World's Second Largest Player in White Cement and Third in CAC"
Zenar noted that the production facilities in Mersin, Afyon and Eskişehir offer global competitive advantage through sustainability-focused technologies and value-added product portfolios, and highlighted the unique position of the Mersin Plant in the sector:
"Our Mersin plant is the only facility in the world capable of producing grey cement, white cement and CAC in the same plant. With this characteristic, we are talking about a facility that has entered global building materials literature. Today, with our production network spanning three continents, we are the world's second largest player in white cement and the third largest in CAC. Our facilities in Turkey are among the fundamental pillars of this global leadership journey."
Exports to Nearly 80 Countries from the US to Australia
Umut Zenar emphasized that Çimsa has continuously increased its export strength through product and market diversification, and also highlighted performance over the last five years:
"We export to nearly 80 countries worldwide, from America to Australia, from Italy to South Korea. Over the last five years, with approximately USD 1.5 billion in exports from Turkey to global markets, we have made a strong contribution to our country's value-added export targets."
CAC Capacity Increase Investment to be Completed in First Half of the Year
Zenar emphasized that Turkey has always held a priority position for Çimsa, noting that investments made in Turkey alone over the last five years have approached USD 250 million. Addressing strategic investments in the CAC field, Zenar stated:
"We are the only company producing CAC in Turkey. With the completion of our additional CAC investment ongoing in Mersin in the first half of this year, we will reach a capacity capable of meeting approximately 20 percent of global CAC consumption excluding China."
Mersin Plant: Çimsa's 'Intellectual Production Center'
Zenar stated that the Mersin Plant is not merely a production facility but also serves as an innovation center, noting that solutions developed at Formülhane, Turkey's cement sector's first R&D center, have brought new capabilities to Çimsa.
Zenar noted that the Flycrete product developed at Formülhane enables repairs of areas subject to heavy loads, such as airport runways, within just three hours, and stated that the Rapidome system developed with 3D printing technology allows structures to be built within 48 hours. He also noted that with Kratos construction reinforcement solutions recently added to the portfolio, product diversity in the building materials field has been strengthened with advanced technology synthetic fibers.
"We present these value-added products developed and manufactured in Turkey to global markets through our global sales network spanning nearly 80 countries," said Zenar, emphasizing that Çimsa will continue to pursue its Turkey-based growth strategy with determination in the period ahead.
