Turkish Professor's Valuable Discovery Prof. Dr. Mehmet Lütfi Yola, faculty member at Hasan Kalyoncu University School of Health Sciences in Gaziantep, has developed an eco-friendly biosensor that enables early diagnosis of nearly 40 diseases and delivers rapid data within a maximum of 15 minutes. Yola applied to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office to patent the biosensors he developed using ecological materials, which have yielded successful results in hospital applications. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Lütfi Yola, stating that he has been working on biosensors for approximately 10 years, explained that the biosensors he developed can detect diseases in much shorter timeframes by measuring blood, urine and body fluids at the nano level. Expressing positive results in diagnostic work for major diseases, Yola continued as follows:
"In doing this, we design the biosensor first by using certain analytical methods. Subsequently, we prepare these systems for diagnosing diseases as important as possible. One of these is heart attack. If we can instantly and selectively detect elevated troponin levels preceding a heart attack, we indirectly establish the risk of heart attack. For this purpose, we created troponin sensors. Following this, we designed an electrochemical biosensor that can be used in lung cancer. In recent years, we have developed and designed biosensors for major diseases such as breast cancer, different types of cancer and pancreatic cancer."

Delivers results within minutes

"Through the patent application, commercialization and consequently faster implementation in society will occur. The most important advantage of the biosensors we created is actually enabling early diagnosis, fast signal generation and the ability to achieve response times. Currently available biosensors deliver results at the earliest in 1 day, and this period can extend up to one week. We can detect within as little as a maximum of 15 minutes from the moment the sensors come into contact with blood or urine." he concluded.   Source
