Turkish Scientist Joins Editorial Board of International Journal

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeki Candan, member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Outstanding Young Scientists Award Program (GEBİP) and researcher in lignocellulosic biomaterial engineering and nanotechnology, has joined the Editorial Board of Green Materials, published by The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), one of the world's first professional engineering associations founded 200 years ago. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeki Candan, Faculty Member at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Forestry, Department of Forest Industry Engineering, continues his research with the NanoTeam research and innovation group in the "Nanotechnology Laboratory" and "Thermal Analysis Laboratory" established in 2010. Candan, who develops renewable, biodegradable, non-toxic, lightweight and high-strength nanocellulose-based materials with broad application potential ranging from automotive to aerospace industries, from medical applications to electronics, from forest products to chemical industry, from cosmetics to food industry, by reducing cellulose—the most abundant biopolymer on earth—to nano scale, and who holds registered patents in this field, was deemed worthy of joining the Editorial Board of Green Materials, which publishes scientific research in this area. Candan noted that the association has for 200 years guided the construction of major structures worldwide, published standards, and that its engineers played a role in establishing infrastructure in many countries including England. He stated that the association later founded a publishing house and produced publications according to engineering fields within it and issued scientific journals. Candan highlighted that ICE has contacts in Africa, America, Australia, East Asia, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia regions, maintains a digital library and publishing house, and that the ICE Library contains more than 1500 internationally renowned digital books since 1836 along with numerous scientific journals.

Candan noted that Green Materials is scanned by international indices (Science Citation Index), which serve as an important criterion for academic promotion and appointments in Turkey and where graduate and doctoral students as well as scientists wish to have their articles published, and continued as follows:

"Green Materials is a worldwide journal published in England covering sustainable, recyclable, nanotechnology and green chemistry/green materials topics and is indexed by scientific databases. We were selected for the Editorial Board because we work on sustainable biomaterial engineering and bionano materials, and green composite materials. The fact that we have numerous articles published in high-impact-factor journals, and have been honored with many international awards, particularly from the United States and Sweden, were contributing factors to our selection. The journal aims to be a leader in competition with other scientific journals by including innovative scientists who are young, internationally recognized in diverse fields, and conducting high-impact scientific research."
