Turkey's Exporters Council (TİM) has partnered with BBC World News to increase global awareness of Turkish export products and sectors. BBC World News produced three documentary-style programmes on Food & Agriculture, Textiles & Jewellery, and Innovation & Technology. Turkish export products are being introduced through these films to BBC's audience of nearly 1 billion viewers across 4 continents.

"We moved up to the next tier in 2021"

TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said regarding the matter: "As our exports grow, we set our targets even higher. In 2021, we exceeded USD 224 billion and moved up to the next tier globally. In 2022, we are raising our benchmark annually by exceeding USD 250 billion. To achieve these targets, every promotional effort, whether sector-specific or related to the 'Made in Türkiye' brand, is of critical importance. We have accelerated our promotional activities both in countries where our exports hold high market shares and in emerging markets. We are introducing Turkey's values to the world." Despite the pandemic, Turkey closed 2020 with record-breaking export achievements. In 2021, Turkish exporters achieved a success story that set an example for the world. Successfully capitalizing on disruptions in global supply chains, Turkish exporters reached USD 224 billion in exports in 2021, bringing forward their 2022 target by one year.

70 percent of world's hazelnuts from Turkey

The food and agriculture sectors, which play a major role in this success, also hold significant positions in international trade. In 2021, the food and agriculture sector demonstrated its importance as a major global supplier with exports exceeding USD 22.5 billion. Turkish agriculture and food sectors maintain their leading position with many products across more than 180 countries. Throughout the year, Turkey has some of the world's best agricultural ecosystems producing nutritious foods, raw materials and organic products. Turkey is the world's largest producer of hazelnuts, dried and fresh figs, apricots, raisins and bulgur. Hazelnuts, the secret ingredient of chocolate confectionery, are exported by Turkey to 150 countries worldwide and account for 70 percent of global hazelnuts.

Reaching nearly 1 billion viewers

BBC World News teams reached nearly 1 billion viewers in Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and South Asia, producing three documentary-style programmes on Food & Agriculture, Textiles & Jewellery and Innovation & Technology. The first in the series, the Textiles & Jewellery sector promotional broadcast, reached 1 billion viewers. The second film covering the food and agriculture sectors aired with BBC World News viewers in early February. The promotional film, featuring Şemsa Denizsel and Duygu Elekdar, focused on dried and fresh fruits, olives and olive oil, cereals and legumes, and the hazelnut sectors, while also featuring products such as fresh and dried grapes, cherries, figs, tomatoes, cucumbers and apricots.

"Promotional activities are vital for our exports"

TİM Chairman Gülle, noting that they continue to implement all global communication projects for promotion of export sectors and products in target markets, stated: "As our exports grow, we set our targets even higher. In 2021, we exceeded USD 224 billion and moved up to the next tier globally. This year, exceeding USD 250 billion, we are confidently raising our targets for the years ahead. To achieve these targets, every promotional effort, whether sector-specific or related to the 'Made in Türkiye' brand, is of critical importance. Particularly after the pandemic, the transformation taking place in global supply chains has provided Turkey with an important opportunity. To make the most of this situation, we have accelerated our promotional activities both in countries where our exports already hold high market shares and in emerging markets. We are introducing Turkey's values to the world. The project we implemented with BBC World News is a product of these efforts," he said.
