Teknopark İstanbul Named Turkey's Top Technopark for Third Time

Teknopark Istanbul Ranks First in Turkey for Third Consecutive Year According to a statement from the company, Teknopark Istanbul ranked first among technology parks hosting patented startups in Turkey's Patent Report, compiled by Patent Effect based on 20 technology categories, for the third consecutive year in 2022, as it had in the previous two years. According to the report, 783 of Turkey's 1,010 patented startup companies were established in technology parks. Teknopark Istanbul, which hosts 77 patented startups and maintains its top position, had also ranked first with 68 companies in 2021 and 52 companies in 2020.

Bilal Topçu, General Director of Teknopark Istanbul, whose comments were included in the statement, noted that companies are supported by providing grants under the Teknodestek program in the area of Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights, stating: "Although our technology park is younger than other technology parks, it has achieved first place three times in a row in a short period. The foundation of this success lies in our Teknodestek program conducted by our Connectto Technology Transfer Office and the intensive efforts made in this direction. We continue to support our companies by developing annually the application fees for patent, utility model and industrial design registration, as well as the examination and research fees and international patent application fees. As Teknopark Istanbul, we see and believe in the potential of our companies and entrepreneurs. The work we do motivates us to crown the qualified projects carried out at Teknopark Istanbul with valuable outputs, while enabling us to undertake new initiatives to develop our processes." Expressing their belief that intellectual and industrial property rights can be used as a commercialization tool in addition to their protective function, Topçu stated: "For this reason, we are working to enable our companies to transfer the technologies they develop and protect to other companies through licensing. In addition to the grant support and tax exemptions provided by our government in this regard, we also aim to contribute to the commercialization of our companies by including Teknopark Istanbul's network strength in the process." According to the information provided, Teknopark Istanbul, the "Turkey's deep technology hub" under the partnership of the Presidency of Defence Industries and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, holds a significant share in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Turkey's most important companies proven in the global arena in the defence, aviation and space sectors operate at Teknopark Istanbul. In addition to the defence industry, Teknopark Istanbul conducts R&D activities in many areas including cybersecurity, energy, artificial intelligence and robotic systems, and biotechnology, producing deep technology in nearly 3,000 national projects with over 400 companies and 9,000 R&D engineers.
