Şişecam Expands Coated Glass Production in Europe with New Investment

Şişecam launches new coated glass line with 6 million square metres annual capacity at its flat glass facility in Bulgaria. The EUR 20 million investment strengthens the company's production of high-value products for the European architectural glass market while reinforcing its export and international sales capabilities.

Şişecam, a global player in the glass and chemicals sector, has implemented another strategic investment to increase its production capacity for the European market. The company announced that it has commissioned a second coated glass line at its flat glass manufacturing facility in Bulgaria, in addition to its existing coated glass line. The new line, completed with a total investment of EUR 20 million, will expand product supply for the European architectural glass market with an annual production capacity of 6 million square metres.

The new line enables production of tempered, high-performance and energy-efficient coated glass, with this investment expected to increase Şişecam's product diversity and operational flexibility. The company aims to gain broader scope in its R&D activities alongside the capacity increase in question.

Higher Volumes of Value-Added Products for Europe
Through the additional capacity, Şişecam plans to supply the European market with higher volumes of coated glass that provides maximum heat insulation while ensuring high light transmission, bird-friendly glass solutions and heated athermalized glass products for the automotive sector. The investment is positioned as a strategic step responding to growing sustainability and high-performance expectations.

Can Yücel: "We will increase the share of value-added products"
Şişecam General Manager Can Yücel made the following remarks on the commissioning of the investment:

"We have commissioned our new coated glass line with annual capacity of 6 million square metres at our flat glass facility in Bulgaria. This investment, which will strengthen our competitive advantage through advanced operational efficiency and an expanded product range, will increase the share of value-added products in our portfolio, enabling us to deliver greater value to our customers."

Yücel emphasized that Şişecam shapes its growth strategy around efficiency, cost discipline, cash generation capacity and balance sheet resilience, and also recalled that two additional new coated glass investments are underway:

"With the coated glass line with annual capacity of 7 million square metres that we will commission this year at our Tarsus flat glass facility and the new line with annual capacity of 6.5 million square metres being prepared at our facility in Northern Italy, our coated glass line count worldwide will reach seven. Our total coated glass capacity will rise to 48.1 million square metres."

Şişecam anticipates that the new line will also make a significant contribution to operational profitability thanks to its advanced technology infrastructure and high automation level.
