Şişecam has fired up its new glass container furnace in Eskişehir and the glass tableware furnace that it completed its cold repair on. As a result of these investments totalling USD 174 million, the Şişecam Eskişehir complex has become the world's largest glass production facility with an approximate production capacity of 1 million tonnes. Pressing ahead with its goal of becoming one of the world's top three players in its core business areas, Şişecam continues its uninterrupted investments that create value for the geographies and stakeholders in which it operates. Şişecam has fired up its new glass container furnace in Eskişehir and the glass tableware furnace that it completed its cold repair on. As a result of these investments, the Şişecam Eskişehir complex has become the world's largest glass production facility with an approximate consolidated capacity of 1 million tonnes.
Şişecam Chairman of the Board of Directors and Authorized Member Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman made the following statement regarding the newly fired furnace investment:
"The glass container furnace we have fired up with an investment of approximately USD 145 million will provide additional employment to 127 people. The furnace, operating with a yearly gross capacity of 198,000 tonnes, will produce quality bottles and jars. Şişecam implemented this investment in an environment where global inflation and associated investment costs are rising, in order to meet increasing demand and support the growth of the sectors that it supplies. As a result of the new investment, the Şişecam Eskişehir Glass Container Plant has become the world's largest capacity glass container production facility with 5 furnaces and 24 lines in a single location. The facility's total glass container production capacity has reached approximately 760,000 tonnes annually. With the commissioning of the latest investment, Şişecam's global glass container production capacity has reached 3.3 million tonnes annually."
World leader in glass tableware
Şişecam General Manager Görkem Elverici spoke about the glass tableware furnace that has been fired up after completing its cold repair in Eskişehir: "The investments we inaugurated today in Eskişehir are not limited to the glass container field alone. At the Eskişehir Glass Tableware production facility, we have also completed the cold repair of our second furnace with an investment of approximately USD 29 million. The additional capacity achieved has positioned Şişecam as a world leader in glass tableware production. The renewed glass tableware furnace will serve with a yearly gross capacity of 64,000 tonnes while also providing additional employment to 246 people. Our glass tableware production capacity in Eskişehir has reached approximately 190,000 tonnes yearly gross." As a result of all these investments, Şişecam's consolidated production capacity in the glass container and glass tableware business areas in Eskişehir has reached approximately 1 million tonnes. This has made Şişecam's Eskişehir production complex the world's largest integrated glass production facility in a single location. This scale created in Eskişehir is expected to provide significant advantages in terms of efficient resource utilization and operational efficiency.
