Şişecam Opens Two New Production Facilities in Tatarstan with $310 Million Investment

Şişecam Group's flat glass and automotive glass production facilities established in the Republic of Tatarstan, a constituent part of the Russian Federation, were officially opened at a ceremony hosted by Dr. Reha Akçakaya, Chairman of Şişecam Group Flat Glass Division. The ceremony at the modern production facilities, built with a total investment of USD 310 million, was attended by administrative and diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Turkey, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, including Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekçi and Tatarstan President Rustam Minnihanov. The flat glass factory with annual production capacity of 230,000 tons, located in Tatarstan's Alabuga Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and in which Şişecam Group holds 70 per cent and French company Saint-Gobain holds 30 per cent, was realized with an investment of USD 210 million. The automotive glass facility, also located in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone with 100 per cent investment by Şişecam Group and annual production capacity of 800,000 vehicle sets, cost approximately USD 100 million. These facilities, among the world's leading flat glass and automotive glass plants in terms of technology, employ a total of 653 workers.

Şişecam Group's investments in Russia exceed USD 1.1 billion

Şişecam Group, the only global producer operating across all three main activity areas of the global glass sector—flat glass, household glassware and glass packaging—made its first investment in the Russian Federation in 2002, consistent with its strong market position, the current size of the economy and its forward-looking potential. Operating with investments in glass packaging, household glassware and flat glass in the Russian Federation, the Group operates at a total of 8 production facilities in this country. Şişecam Group, which has total production capacity exceeding 1.5 million tons in flat glass, glass packaging and household glassware in the Russian Federation, has exceeded a total investment amount of USD 1.1 billion in this country. The Group's total workforce in the Russian Federation, including the flat glass and automotive glass production facilities officially opened in the Republic of Tatarstan, has reached 3,400 employees.
