Siemens Turkey Wins Two Awards Siemens Turkey returned from the Common Futures Awards Programme, organized by the Confederation of Turkish Employers' Unions (TİSK), with two awards. Siemens Turkey was recognized with two awards at the Confederation of Turkish Employers' Unions (TİSK) Common Futures Awards Programme for projects it has implemented for both society and the environment.
Siemens Turkey Corporate Communications and Public Relations Director Özlem Özkaya made the following statement on the matter:
"It is gratifying for us to participate in this TİSK-signed organization, which shares a common understanding with us, and to be a source of inspiration together in the business world for better tomorrows. As Siemens Turkey, we have been serving our country for over 166 years. In addition to our commercial activities, we continue to invest in the future of our country and our planet through our sustainability initiatives. Today, we are proud that our 'Digital Transformation Camp' project, realized with this understanding, has been awarded in the 'Diversity and Inclusion - Other' category, and our 'Carbon Neutral' project has been awarded in the 'Green Transformation' category."
Career opportunities for young people with disabilities
Siemens Turkey's "Digital Transformation Camp" project won an award in the 'Diversity and Inclusion - Other' category, which covers sustainable projects aimed at empowering and supporting individuals such as children, the elderly, and people with disabilities among vulnerable social stakeholders requiring special protection. Özkaya noted that the company is pleased to contribute to enabling individuals with disabilities in our country to pursue careers in software and to bring qualified labor to the digitalization sector. She continued her remarks as follows: "By offering training and career opportunities in the software field, we contribute both to preparing young people for the future world in an equipped manner and to enriching the technology world with their talents. After 3 months of classroom training, students receive 6 months of on-the-job training in appropriate areas within our R&D team. Upon successful completion of their training, our candidates are provided with employment opportunities at Siemens Turkey following various assessments." In the project, a total of 39 students have graduated through 5 terms to date; on-the-job training for 15 successful candidates from the first 4 terms has been completed; 8 of them have started working at Siemens Turkey. Some of the candidates have been placed at different institutions in the sector, and the program has also served as an example of providing employment to the sector.
Determined steps toward carbon neutrality
Siemens Turkey was recognized with its "Carbon Neutral" project in the 'Green Transformation' category of the Common Futures Awards Programme, which rewards projects implemented for ecosystem protection and improvement, creating environmental impact for a sustainable world. Expressing that the reduction of carbon emissions from 19,000 tons in 2015 to currently 5,600 tons is "a strong indicator of our commitment to becoming carbon-neutral," Özlem Özkaya continued as follows: "Since 2015, we have reduced carbon emissions by 70 percent. We now source all electrical energy consumed at our campuses entirely from renewable energy sources. Through our smart building applications, we ensure more efficient use of resources in our buildings. We own Turkey's first LEED Gold certified manufacturing facility. We aim to replace our entire vehicle fleet with electric vehicles by 2036 and to reduce our fuel consumption to zero. We can implement smart building transformations and observe our carbon footprint from digital screens. We have projects to reduce our natural gas consumption. Instead of giving certificates to our colleagues for joining and seniority, we continue to expand our forests with seedlings we gift."
