Siegwerk Hosts Industry Leaders at INKday, Unveils Latest Innovations

Packaging inks leader Siegwerk held the third edition of INKday, an event launched to present technologies, innovations and latest trends in the industry while fostering mutual interaction with sector stakeholders.

Health-Safe Inks Highlighted at INKday

The INKday event, which opened with speeches by Siegwerk Management Board Member Hugo Noordhoek Hegt and Siegwerk Turkey General Manager Mustafa Güler, showcased new ink solutions developed for packaging printing. Information was provided particularly on health-safe inks used in food packaging that do not migrate into food. Presentations were also delivered on UV LED for Narrow Web (Labels), low-migration UV solutions for Narrow Web (Labels) applications, low-energy and LED UV offset solutions, offset food packaging solutions, special effects for tobacco packaging, mono solvent PU-based paste system, high-speed flexo + HQ (High Quality) flexo, packaging with aggressive fillers, special effect inks for packaging applications, project management and consulting (OSC & InHouse), digital inks, product safety and regulations (PSR).

UV LED Technology for Narrow Web (Labels) Introduced

The presentation examined energy costs, environment, safety and quality, discussing the advantages of LED UV technology, a new trend in light-curing systems, compared to UV technology. Sicura Nutriflex LED technology from the UV flexo series was introduced, which was developed for food packaging applications and other sensitive applications (cosmetics and pharmaceuticals) within regulatory restrictions such as Swiss Ordinance, EUPIA Regulatory Guideline, and Nestle Guide Notes, featuring low migration, high reactivity and excellent adhesion.

Offset Food Packaging Solutions Explained

In the offset food packaging solutions section, various regulatory restrictions such as EUPIA Ordinance on migration, Swiss Ordinance, and Nestle Guide were discussed, along with migration risk in food packaging and migration studies conducted in Siegwerk's laboratories. With various food packaging samples on display, introductions were made for Tempo Nutripack 2 for conventional layer offset, Sicura Litho Nutriboard 2 for paper and cardboard UV offset, Sicura Litho Nutriplast 2 and Nutriplast IML used in UV offset for plastic surfaces, all from Siegwerk's low-migration ink series.

Mono Solvent PU-Based Paste System Presented

The presentation introduced high-performance, mono solvent, full PU paste systems usable with different binders (NC, full PU, NC/PU). The system's high pigmentation formulation enabling excellent printability at high speeds and compatibility with a wide range of films (OPP, PET, OPA) was explained.

High-Speed Flexo + HQ Flexo Solutions Shared

Expectations and challenges in high-speed and high-quality flexo printing were discussed, along with Siegwerk's available solutions for such printing applications. High-quality flexo printing samples were also shared with customers.

Special Effect Inks Drew Attention

Research shows that 70% of all purchasing decisions occur at the point of sale. Siegwerk presented in the session various special effect inks and lacquers that create shelf appeal alongside differentiation potential and also contribute to increased brand awareness. The company introduced its product portfolio consisting of many types of effect inks and lacquers, ranging from matte-gloss visual effects and paper, rubber, sandy tactile effects to metallic, hologram, UV-active and conductive properties.
