Şahika Ercümen Sets 100-Meter Record for Republic's 100th Anniversary

Turkish national freediver and record holder Şahika Ercümen sets 100-metre record on Republic's centenary. National athlete Şahika Ercümen broke the Turkish record by diving 100 metres in 3 minutes 14 seconds at the World Freediving Cup held in the Bahamas.

Noting that her goal was to dive 100 metres on the Republic's centenary, Ercümen said, "I managed to participate in this competition under very difficult circumstances. Our country went through a challenging period and we did not receive sufficient sponsorship support. Despite everything, I reached my goal. I am experiencing the pride and joy of setting new records and bringing medals to our country. May this 100-metre record on our centenary be a gift to our Republic." The Vertical Blue Freediving World Cup, one of the world's most prestigious diving competitions, has been held in the Bahamas since 2008. The World Cup, held at Dean's Blue Hole, one of the world's deepest holes at 202 metres depth, is taking place this year between 20-30 July 2023. At the Vertical Blue Freediving World Cup, a total of 40 athletes from 24 countries are competing: Turkey, United States, Belgium, United Kingdom, China, South Africa, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, Colombia, South Korea, Hungary, Mexico, Ukraine, Uruguay, Peru, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Chile and Taiwan.
