Oil Imports Rose in August

Oil imports surge 39 percent in August Crude oil and petroleum products imported mainly from Iraq, Russia and India ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's total oil imports rose 39 percent year-on-year in August to 4,108,295 tons. According to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority's August "Oil Market Sector Report," crude oil purchases, which constitute the largest item in Turkey's total oil imports, increased 52 percent to 2,855,793 tons. Total oil imports in August rose 39 percent year-on-year to 4,108,295 tons. Diesel imports during this period increased 46.1 percent to 1,066,544 tons. The remainder of imports consisted of aviation and marine fuels, gasoline and fuel-oil products and other goods. The largest quantity of crude oil and petroleum products, 1,105,000 tons, was imported from Iraq, followed by Russia with 1,022,000 tons and India with 310,000 tons. Meanwhile, gasoline sales in August rose 21.2 percent year-on-year to 328,165 tons, while diesel sales increased 0.5 percent to 2,453,372 tons. Total petroleum product sales increased 3 percent to 2,929,426 tons.

Petroleum product exports up 60 percent

The aviation sector, which came to a standstill due to restrictions implemented to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic last year, continues its recovery. Aviation fuel exports in August rose 54.5 percent to 288,989 tons. During the same period, marine fuel exports increased 148 percent to 83,263 tons. Gasoline exports rose 9.7 percent to 48,823 tons. Diesel exports fell 31.9 percent to 102,900 tons. Total exports in the oil market, including other products, increased 60.9 percent to 780,166 tons.

Petroleum product output up 15 percent

Diesel production in August decreased 4.6 percent year-on-year to 1,515,791 tons, gasoline production increased 5.2 percent to 390,603 tons, and aviation fuel production rose 53.4 percent to 397,470 tons. Marine fuel production increased 21.2 percent to 59,400 tons. Total refinery petroleum product output, including other fuel types, rose 15.4 percent to 3,367,190 tons. The growth in petroleum product output during this period limited imports.
