PAGÇEV Continues Recycling Efforts Without Slowing Down

Turkey's authorised packaging waste management organisation PAGÇEV (PAGEV Geri Dönüşüm İşletmesi) assumed responsibility for the waste management obligations of 1,394 economic enterprises in 2018 whilst pursuing packaging waste reduction, reuse and recycling activities within a circular economy framework, showing year-on-year growth. Within this scope, the organisation reached 70 municipalities with a population of 13 million. In 2018, PAGÇEV conducted packaging waste recovery operations with a 28 percent increase compared to the previous year, separating and recycling 280,000 tonnes of packaging waste at source. PAGÇEV General Manager Yağmur Cengiz, commenting on the organisation's 2018 activities, stated: "In 2018, we continued to protect the environment by recycling numerous waste streams from plastics to paper, glass to metals, whilst simultaneously contributing TRY 780 million to the economy. Thanks to these activities alone in 2018, PAGÇEV prevented 2.2 million trees from being cut down. We achieved 7.3 million kWh in electricity savings, 326 million litres of fossil fuel savings and 3.2 million litres of water savings. By sending all this waste to recycling instead of landfill sites, we achieved savings of 2.9 million cubic metres of space. As PAGÇEV, we aim to continue our work with increasing momentum in the coming periods with a sense of responsible industry awareness. To this end, our target for 2019 is to recycle 300,000 tonnes of waste."
