Born as a child of an Armenian family in Beirut and having emigrated to the US during the Lebanese Civil War, Moderna's Chief Executive Afeyan was reported to have a fortune of approximately USD 5 billion. While many businesses worldwide were forced to close during the COVID-19 period, the company owners became among America's 400 richest people thanks to the vaccine they developed against COVID-19. It was noted that most of the 400 billionaires, mostly investors in finance, technology and healthcare sectors, were 40 percent wealthier than last year's ultra-rich.
